I have many fond memories with Ed. As a former Newport News Police Officer, Ed and I laughed at some of his childhood antics growing up there. In South Sudan, Kenya, and Darfur, we discussed family and his lovely "bride"; in Iraq we talked of Panama and some of his funnier stories and we talked of his kids, all the while enjoying life, smoking cigars, drinking and laughing as he strummed his guitar. You are missed brother. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

During the last 3 months of my senior year (1965), I found myself homeless and sleeping on the shore of the James River. Ed learned of this and late one night I was awakened by a man with a flashlight claiming to be a police officer. It turned out to be Ed grinning and smiling. He took me to his home and he and his parents fed and took care of me. It was Ed and his parents who attended my graduation. Ed was, and remained my big brother until his passing. I will never forget all the adventures we had as members of KDT and the friendship we had throughout the last 56 years.

Ed and I were classmates and KDT brothers at Newport News HS. He helped me in those years and I never got to thank him. Such a meritorious Army career he had. No more pain where he is now, I hope to see him there one day.

The expression "He marched to the beat of a different drummer" was written with Eddie in mind. No challenge too great, no person too small, no friend unaffected by his contagious personality. What a fantastic ambassador for his beloved NNHS, his legacy will live on.
