Obituary

Elsie Anna Woodwell, age 83, of Ocala, FL passed away peacefully at The Legacy Hospice House on March 24, 2017 after a courageous battle with a terminal disease.

Elsie was born March 10, 1934 in West Orange, New Jersey and soon after moved to Lansdale, Pennsylvania. She graduated from North Penn High School and went on to attend Zion Bible College in East Providence, Rhode Island where she earned a degree in Music.

It was at Zion that she met her loving husband, Roger. They were married on June 4, 1966 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. The Lord blessed them with two children, Lori and Jonathan, and 4 wonderful grandchildren, whom Elsie adored.

Shortly after getting married, Roger and Elsie entered the Pastoral ministry, happily serving together in numerous Assembly of God churches for close to 45 years, starting in Lincoln, VT and ending in Warren, RI. Although they retired from full-time ministry in 2006, they continued to provide interim pastoral support to several northern New England churches until 2016, when they moved back to Ocala, Florida. Elsie loved her Florida home and the warm weather!

Elsie was a faithful minister’s wife with a servant’s heart. She was an exceptional pianist and used that talent to make joyful music wherever she went. When you heard her play, it was unforgettable! She was a godly woman whose faith never wavered.

Elsie was an exemplary wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her beloved husband, Roger, of Ocala; her daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Rick, and their 2 children, Austin and Jessica of Georgia, VT; her son, Jonathan and daughter-in-law, Jackie and their 2 children, Emily and Noah of Milton, VT and Bothell, Washington; siblings Robert Holliday of Lansdale, PA and Dorothy Westburg of Woxall, PA.

Elsie always had a smile on her face and kind words to share. She was known for her grace and dignity, even to the very end.

A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held on March 29, 2017 at 10:00am at Baldwin Brothers Funerals & Cremations (954 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, 236-5884) followed by a reception at Crossroads Church of God. Burial will follow at a later date in the spring in Georgia, Vermont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Legacy House at the Hospice of Marion County, 9505 SW 110th Street, Ocala, FL 34481. The Woodwell family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate care Elsie received at the Legacy House during her final days. It will never be forgotten.
