Obituary
Gloria Tortora Shaw, age 83, passed away in the early hours of Monday, June 5, 2017 at her home. She was born on September 8, 1933 in Jacksonville, Florida to Robert and Nellie Farris, and was their only child. Throughout her life, both in her career as a registered nurse and her membership in many service organizations, Gloria always sought to help others. Her working years in the Daytona Beach area were spent at Halifax Hospital in the ACT program, several area nursing homes, and later as a visiting nurse specializing in care of the elderly. Gloria was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church where she served in the Vestry and the Stephen’s Ministry, as well as providing grief counseling. She also delighted in keeping the Gift Case. Her club memberships included the Pilot Club and the Palmetto Club, where she served as President. Gloria was also a member of Halifax River Yacht Club, where she provided event photography for many years. American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life was one of many beneficiaries of her charitable energy. Left to cherish Gloria’s memory are her husband, Edward P. Shaw, son Michael Tortora and grandsons Anthony and Louis Tortora, daughter Claire Shupe and grand-daughter Renee (Jon) Barbee, great-grandson Jacob Barbee, daughter Carolyn (Bart) Bibler and grand-daughter Amity Bibler and grandson Nathaniel (Christina) Bibler and great-grand-daughter Lorelai Bibler. The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gloria’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.
