Obituary
Judith (Judy) A. Keener, 74, of Ft. Myers, FL went home to the Lord on July 17, 2018 after a long battle with infection. Judy passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, surrounded in love by family and friends. Judy was born on July 27, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late David and Jean (Snyder) Hammond. She grew up in Mars, PA, attending Mars High School and Slippery Rock University, earning her degree in teaching. She married her high school sweetheart Tom and together, traveled to South America, where she taught at the American school, before returning to the states and settling with her family in the Gibsonia, PA area. Judy was a loving mother and wife and spent the majority of her time taking care of her family. In addition to her family and friends, Judy had a great love for the Lord. She was an active member in church both at The First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, and later on at McGregor Baptist in Ft. Myers FL. She taught Sunday School for many years, as well as assisted with vacation bible school and various other church related activities.
Judy was an avid golfer. She enjoyed the challenge of the game as well as the opportunity to spend time with old friends and make new ones on the course. Her favorite though, was the time she got to spend with her grandchildren. She cherished each moment she had with them, sharing her wisdom, her passion, and her love.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Thomas A. Keener, with whom she celebrated 51 years of marriage on July 15, 2018; her daughter, Linnea Meiser and her husband Dean of Andreas, PA; her grandchildren, Jimmy, Kate, Eoin, Alexandra, and Spencer; her sister, Jane Adams; her brother, David Hammond and his wife Jenny; and many nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her son, Thomas A. Keener III and her brother, James Hammond.
Memorial Services celebrating her life will be held on August 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Hope Theatre at McGregor Baptist Church, Ft. Myers FL, with the family receiving friends for visitation from 9:30 am until the start of the service. Services will also be held on August 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, in Bakerstown PA, with the family receiving friends for visitation from 9:30 am until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to McGregor Baptist Church or Hosanna Industries in her name.
