Obituary
Lawrence Bern Visconti, aka Larry, Lar, and Poppy, 67, of Stratford, Connecticut, passed away on February 24, 2017, from complications of diabetes and heart disease. The memorial services will be held at St. Mark’s in Stratford, Connecticut on the weekend of March 18, 2017. Additional celebration of life festivities will be held by the family at the Seawall, Lordship beach where Larry loved to spend his time. All time and location details to be provided closer to the ceremonies. Larry was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on October 1, 1949. He graduated from Bunnell High school in 1967 and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science from Clemson University in 1971, who he was so proud to support in their recent and many national championships over the years. Larry is survived by his father Michael Leonard Visconti, brother Mick (Vicky) Visconti, sister Lynnette (Tom) Duhaime, step sisters Linda (Richard) Beale and Mary (Buzz) Kolek, sons Matthew (Diane), Mike (Chrisy), Adam, Zack, daughter Kate, grandchildren Benjamin, Evangeline, Jocelyn, and Jonathan (Matthew) and Colin, Luke, and Leo (Mike), niece Meghan (Ken) Sollars, nephew Kevin (Mark) Visconti, aunts Antoinette (Tony)Vigliotti and Grace (Ben) Cooper, Josephine (Vinny) Lipinski, the mothers of his children Joyce Clemons, and Maryanne (Jack) Pfeffer, and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Berna Visconti, stepmother Bridget Visconti, his uncle Rocco Visconti, and his grandparents. Larry worked as a Construction Manager for many companies over the years and proudly retired in 2011 after 40 years dedicating his life to his craft. In the words of his Father, Larry loved to build things, especially high rises. From foundation to completion across Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas and Florida, he was the best at what he did. Larry loved to spend his retirement years traveling the US including a road trip with his daughter, Kate and his beloved grand dogs Bud, Maui, and Poppy, from Ohio to Boston, and to Florida with his son Matthew, sharing a love of music on the guitar. He loved to sneak forbidden foods from his son Mike’s freezer resulting in their nicknaming ice cream as “crack” and his addiction to Girl Scout Cookies as his GSCs. His eyes beamed with pride when he watched his sons Adam and Zack graduate with Master’s degrees, and he could not have been happier to welcome his grandchildren into the world, regularly sending them gifts and forming special bonds as a Poppy. He spent his day time enjoying The Young and the Restless, evenings enjoying Jeopardy, and late nights laughing at Saturday Night Live. Sundays were reserved for his mastery of cross-word puzzles, and any day of the week was a perfect day to catch a movie followed by a Facebook review that simply would say, “See it,” or “Not so good.” We believe he is now in Heaven with his Mother, Uncle Rocco, Bridget, dear friends Tony and Irene playing Pinochle and most likely flirting with any of the cute ladies he sees. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association at https://donations.diabetes.org. The family of Lawrence B. Visconti wishes to thank Vitas of New Smyrna Beach and Kristine Torgerson for comforting him in his final days and helping send him off peacefully. We know his loving energy will be around us always. A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford, CT 06614-2441, on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11 AM with additional celebration of life festivities to follow immediately after the prayer service at a beautiful beach house on Long Island Sound in Milford, CT, where Larry loved to spend his time.
