Obituary
Walter C. Brown III passed away July 20, 2017 at Hospice Center – Edgewater, FL. Walter was born in Daytona Beach, FL on October 22, 1951 and grew up in Oak Hill, FL. After graduating from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1969, Walter was drafted into the army and served in Vietnam. He later attended Sea School in Mobile, Alabama and became a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine. His career took him around the world many times over. Upon retirement from the Merchant Marine, Walter became owner of Brown’s Bay Marine Center in New Smyrna Beach and later New L’attitudes Boatworks where he was designer and builder of flats fishing boats and repaired small engines. A lifelong biker, Walter built many motorcycles over the years, and most recently his beloved 1940 Indian “Maybellene”. Walter enjoyed fishing and boating and smoking meats for family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and friend and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Walter is survived by his wife Gracie, New Smyrna Beach, children Tobe Lunsford, Crofton, MD, Jason Scali, El Paso, TX, Kristin Kennedy, Edgewater, Chance Brown, New Smyrna Beach, Mother, Mary Lee Cook, Oak Hill, Sisters, Suzanne Greninger, Crescent City, Monica Blackwelder, DeLand, brother David Brown, Oak Hill and grandchildren, Chase and Nolan Lunsford, Maggie Kennedy, and James Scali. A celebration of life is planned for a later date to be announced.
