Obituary

Jill Jennings, a beloved wife, educator, and talented writer, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, in Lehigh Acres, Florida. She was born on August 9, 1947, in Montour County, Pennsylvania, to Roy B. Jennings and Mary E. Stanley, who both preceded her in death.

Jill’s life was a tapestry woven with passion, intellect, and a love for the written word. She pursued her education diligently, earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Her commitment to learning was matched only by her dedication to teaching; Jill imparted knowledge as a Latin and English teacher at several schools, where she inspired countless students with her enthusiasm for literature and language.

On December 31, 1989, Jill married Paul Cheng in Cobb County, Georgia. Their union was marked by love and mutual respect, creating a strong partnership that would last throughout her life. Jill is survived by her devoted husband, Paul, who stood by her side through life’s many adventures.

In addition to her professional achievements, Jill was a gifted writer, recognized for her talent with numerous awards that celebrated her contributions to poetry and prose. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Georgia Poetry Society, where she connected with fellow writers and engaged in her passion for poetry.

Jill loved to immerse herself in books, always seeking new stories and ideas to explore. Her passion for reading fed her creativity and enriched her life. She often turned her thoughts and feelings into beautifully crafted pieces of poetry, capturing the essence of human experience in her words.

Those who knew Jill will remember her not only for her literary talents but also for her warm spirit and kind heart. She was a person who touched the lives of many, and her legacy will continue through the memories shared by her friends and family.

Jill and I met at our community women's club, and I am so grateful for our friendship. She was a very talented writer, and I learned much from her. She gave several presentations of her work to our club, and we were all impressed with her writing skills. She had a deep faith in God, and we had many loving discussions about faith. She and I would call each other, and we always had things to talk about. I am so glad to have copies of her books and poems to reread. I will miss her the rest of my life.

It was a blessing to have crossed paths with Jill, a true life long learner. A brilliant and curious mind, departed too soon.

Jill was a fun member of our informal "Classics reading group and dessert society" in Athens Georgia in the 1970s. "May a Flight of Angels sing her to her rest."

Jill was in the Johns Creek Poetry group when I first started to write poetry. Her critique was direct so much so that I was almost amused (smiling). She told the truth, and my poems were better for it. I will forever be grateful to Jill, her sense of humor, and the interest she had in others. Rest in peace dear Jill. You leave a legacy.

Jill was a dear friend to writers everywhere--including to me and other members of the Atlanta Writers Club. She graced us from the stage and in the pages of our newsletter. We miss her deeply.
