Obituary
Robert “Bob” Walter Bertram passed away on September 6, 2023 after sixty-six years of perpetual motion. Born in Lakeland, Florida on July 25, 1957 to Robert Whitaker Bertram and Norma Leona Bertram (Baylor), Bob grew up and spent most of his life in Jacksonville, FL after multiple childhood moves to the Northeast and Midwest.
Bob attended Terry Parker High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts education from Florida State University and a master’s degree in industrial arts from Appalachian State University. He spent over 30 years teaching in the Duval County Public Schools system, where he impacted the lives of thousands of students through industrial arts education and athletics. In addition, Bob taught evening woodshop classes to adult learners and worked as a brewer at Anheuser-Busch.
A lover of life on the water, Bob spent much of his life boating, fishing, and SCUBA diving. He also had a very active social life and was a compassionate, kind, and generous friend to so many.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Norma Bertram, and his baby brother, Gregory. Bob is best remembered as a beloved father and grandfather and is survived by his daughters Wendy Prophet (Trevor) and Robyn Bertram (Ian Ohlin), and his grandson Deacon Prophet. He is also survived by his brothers Richard Bertram (Wendy Morgan) and Brett Bertram (Rose).
It is Bob’s wish to be cremated and scattered by his daughters in the waters off Tavernier in the Florida Keys. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 18 at noon at the American Legion Post 283 in Jacksonville, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Jacksonville Seminole Club’s Endowed Scholarship fund, and the Appalachian State University Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment (fund/campaign code FAA/92776), and the Coral Restoration Foundation.

No longer in pain or suffering. Will miss your enormous personality and laughter. You were such a loving father to my great-nieces Wendy and Robyn. You taught them to have fun especially in the water. Rest in Heavenly Peace. Love you, Elaine
