A Time To Be Born, A Time For Every Purpose, A Time of Memories
Bonnie Toone Weems, a beloved member of her family and her community, passed away on May 1, 2024, at the age of 84. Bonnie was born in Sabine County, Texas to Nodia and Jim Bowie. She attended Bryant High School in Pineland, Texas, and later moved to New York City in pursuit of a better life.
After moving to the “Big Apple” she quickly embraced that New York attitude that “If I can make it here, I’ll make it anywhere” and she did just that. She went back to school, worked hard, and became a Registered Nurse. It was also in New York where she met and married Walter Toone, a gentleman, friend, and loving companion, who was with her when she took her final breath. Bonnie was very independent, never wanting to burden anyone with her wants and needs. She dedicated her life to serving others and working tirelessly to care for those she took an oath to serve. She also enjoyed her life outside of work travelling both within the United States and abroad to places like Hawaii, Canada, Africa, and China. Holiday dinners and barbeques were always at her home. Bonnie would prepare the most delicious holiday dishes, and her famous potato salad, which to this date, no one can perfectly imitate!
After retiring as a Registered Nurse at Laconia Nursing Home, Bonnie moved to Palm Coast, Florida. During retirement, she served as a volunteer at the Flagler Humane Society Animal Shelter, where she ended up adopting her two “fur babies”, Princess and Prince.
Bonnie, aka “Lady Luck”, lived her best life at the casino and home surrounded by her pets. Bonnie was also a woman of few words, and when she spoke, it was noteworthy and not in vain. She made a lasting impression on those of us who spent time with her and got to know her for her kind spirit, loving heart, and generosity. She created fond memories for those who had the privilege of seeing her smile, laugh, make jokes, and see her dance at her son’s wedding.
Bonnie’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance, determination, and kindness. Her legacy serves as an inspiration to all those who seek to make a difference in this world, reminding us that with hard work, dedication, and a generous heart, anything is possible.
She is survived by her two sons, Clint and Travis, her companion, Walter Toone, her niece Nacole who she raised as a daughter, her daughter-in-law Anna, two sisters, Elizabeth Branch and Barbara Washington, her two fur babies, Prince and Princess, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends. To truly know Bonnie was to love Bonnie. We can truly say she left this life the way she wanted, quietly, peacefully, and without burdening anyone with her problems or pain. She will be missed. Rest in Paradise dear Bonnie.
Comments Bonnie Would Say:
“One monkey don’t stop the show.”
Once asked, “Bonnie where are you going”, and Bonnie responded:
“I’m going to see a man about a horse.”
(basically, meaning none of your business!)
“You have to pay the cost to be the boss.”
Dear Mom,
Today a limb has fallen from the family tree,
And although you are gone,
We thank you for all the soft sweet things you left behind,
In our homes, in our heads, and in our hearts.
You will be truly missed.
Scripture Verse: A Virtuous Woman
Proverbs 31:10, 13, 16, 20; 25 – 30
Who can find a virtuous woman?
for her price is far above rubies.
She seeketh wool, and flax,
And worketh willingly with her hands.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it;
with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor;
yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
Strength and honor are her clothing;
and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom;
She looketh well to the ways of her household,
and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children rise-up, and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously,
But thou excellest them all.
Favour is deceitful,
and beauty is vain;
but a woman that feareth the Lord,
she shall be praised.
