Obituary
Joseph Anthony “Joe” Wehlen Jr., born on July 2, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024, in Viera, Florida. He was 80 years old.
Joe was a beloved father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his sister, Susan Loechle; his children, Joseph (Phebe) and Kevin (Krista); and his cherished grandchildren, Madyson, Joseph IV, Maya, James, Elise, Megan, and step-grandchildren, Adam and Olivia.
Joe led a distinguished career in academia and industry. He attended Xavier University, where he pursued a dual major in mathematics and classical Greek and Latin through the Honors Artium Baccalaureus (HAB) program. He then earned his PhD in mathematics from Michigan State University, where he developed a deep love for the subject. Joe later taught mathematics at Ohio University, inspiring countless students with his passion and dedication. He then dedicated 35 years to working for CSC on the Aegis program, where his expertise and commitment were highly valued.
Outside of his professional life, Joe had a passion for animals, always showing compassion and care for them. He was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and dedication to his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ASPCA or other animal protection charities, in honor of Joe’s memory.
Joseph Anthony Wehlen Jr. will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
