Obituary

John B. Polinchock passed away on July 20, 2024 in Kissimmee, FL surrounded by his family in his final hours.  If you were surprised to learn he was sick, that’s just what he wanted!  He didn’t want anyone feeling sorry for him or worrying about him.

John was one of the early people to contract COVID-19 in February 2020, before we even knew it had arrived in the United States.  But it didn’t take him down then, no, John was tough. He would have to contract it at least one more time in September of 2022 before the lung damage was severe enough to really start to impact his life.  He got four more years of life than most people who contracted it early in the pandemic got, and for that his family is grateful.

But enough about his death, let’s talk about his life!  John was born May 10, 1947 in Queens, NY to Mildred and John J. Polinchock.  John was the first born son in a family that included twins Christopher and Mary Eileen, Robert, and Judy.

John proudly served in the United States Navy for five years including being qualified in submarines on the U.S.S. Harder and having the adventure of a lifetime passing through the gateway to the top of the world, the Arctic Circle, in July of 1968.

John met Patrice Lineburgh in 1970 and they were married on October 8, 1972.  They had three children together; John T. Polinchock (life partner Jennifer Burke), Jennifer Woodruff (husband Daniel Woodruff), and Denise Polinchock (life partner Tony Wyatt).  They relocated from Long Island, NY to Orlando, FL in the summer of 1979. He frequently travelled back north for work trips and loved achieving his “Jersey jealousy tan” to show off the perks of living in Florida to his much paler co-workers.

John loved being a Grandpa to Evan and Lily Woodruff and Ripley Wyatt.  John and Patrice travelled to Las Vegas, NV for their 35th wedding anniversary where John was thrilled to finally visit Roswell, NM, the site of an alleged UFO crash in 1947.  If you ever had the fun of stepping into John’s den at home, you would quickly discover his passion for all things strange and unusual!

John worked at AT&T and later Lucent Technologies from July 1965 to July 2001.  He made many lifelong friends during his 36 year career there, many of whom he would reconnect with on Facebook years after retiring.  John went on to find his “fun retirement” jobs at SeaWorld Orlando, first taking a position working in Security for the park and later transferring to the Audio Engineering department where he was truly in his glory being able to take microphones, speakers, and other equipment apart and repair them every day.  He made many new lifelong friends during his time at SeaWorld as well; he couldn’t help but make friends everywhere he went!

A lifelong learner, John earned a diploma in Electronics Technology from De Vry Institute of Technology, a certificate from the Management Institute at the University of Central Florida, and a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering and Communications.

John loved his dogs, Willis and Tank, Toby and Molly, and his current pair Brandy and Barney.  John met his neighbors all around his current neighborhood while taking the dogs out for walks.  Like I said, he made friends everywhere!

John was loud, funny, and not afraid to be the center of attention.  He loved photography, especially taking pictures of nature.  He loved jogging and bike riding and tormenting his family with the promise of “sweat hugs” after exercising.  He achieved his goal of completing the New York City Marathon in 1978.  After decades of driving practical family cars, he finally got his green Jeep in 2000 and he loved taking it off roading whenever he could.

To know him was to be entertained by him.  He loved putting up elaborate holiday displays for Halloween and Christmas.  He loved striking funny poses for pictures and sharing his favorite jokes.

A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date and will be sure to include lots of shared stories and laughter.  In the meantime, we would love to hear your favorite stories about our beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Please feel free to share them here. We would love to see them!

I just read the posts about my husband John Polinchock. I met John when I was 18 years old we got engaged a year later and got married when I was 20 years old. We had 3 beautiful children and a life time of Love and Happiness together we were married for 51 years and 10 months. Now I know John would say just put down 52 years you don’t have to be exact. But that is just how I am and he knew that. lol. I miss him everyday and wish he could still be here with me and our Fur Babies. I have cried every day since you have passed away. Life is not as beautiful or sweet as it was when you were here with me. I don’t know how to live without you. I sure hope you are keeping a place in Heaven for me I think of you everyday and wish that you could still be here with me and our children and Grandchildren and our puppy dogs I Love you honey and miss you so much. I guess you forgot that I was supposed to go first because you would handle being by yourself better than me. I look forward to being with you in Heaven Honey. Please save a place for me in Heaven. I LOVE YOU JOHN ❤️

I am so saddened by this news that I received today. I have done pool service for John and Patrice for many many years . I didn't see them much as I used too. John and I would have our Monday morning chats. He loved his family including his fur babies so very much. I pray for his family.

My brother-in-law Was one of the smartest people I ever knew Between him and my father I learned everything I know about cars Of course his knowledge was way more vast than that And his infectious laugh even he knew he couldn't control it And his infectious laugh even he knew he couldn't control it He would start to laugh and then say that's it And then it was like a tidal wave of unstoppable Laughing There are so many memories But one of my favorite is From one night in the early 1970s Patrice and John were not married yet And neither was my Sister Karen So Patrice John Karen and my brother Kenny were hanging out and I had a reel to reel tape recorder going recording their antics I was only 13. Patrice and Karen started singing Party Doll John joined in and said I'll be the base, bum bum, bum ba ba bum bum, then Kenny joined in and it was an amazing quartet. Then John did that laugh. I wish I still had that recording but it will forever be in my head. John was a one of a kind. Remember that night Patrice? Rest in peace John

Rest in peace, my dear friend. You brought many smiles to many people with your contagious laughter, always ready and willing to help out whomever needed it. You weren't afraid to speak your mind. I had the privilege of being your friend for over 2 decades and I will always remember your hearty laugh. RIP John

I have so many great memories of John. Working with him at SeaWorld for over 20 years on various projects and events, prompting many memorable episodes and had so many laughs! Famously one incident was a story he and I retold so many times over the years. Several years back, Papa Johns Pizza was having a night event at SeaWorld. They had set up two large pizza ovens in one of our event pavilions where two teams of pizza makers would compete to see who could produce and box up the most pies. During the day the teams were practicing before the big event which resulted in dozens, and dozens, of pizzas being cranked out and no where to send them. The Event Team began calling different departments to head over to the pavilion and pick up free pizza! I put a call in over to the ES Audio shop and John came right over and scored a big collection of cheesy- doughy delights. I recall him walking out of the pavilion carrying a large stack of Papa John boxes - big smile on his face! That would be the last time I would see him - for a while. A week passes by and I still haven't seen John. Upon asking one of his co workers I find out that John was recovering from some sort of Cardiac episode! Oh no! What had I done?! Was this a result from handing over a boat load of pizzas to him! I felt responsible and when I finally saw John at work he knew what I was thinking. He laughed so hard and assured me it had nothing to do with the 20 pounds of pie I handed over to him! As we retold the story over the years exaggerated details evolved. For example, he probably only carried off 4 boxes that day, but by the time John retired from SeaWorld our story had him carrying a stack of 15 boxes. All you could see coming towards you was a was two short legs and a wall of pizza boxes! When they were having John's farewell party in the Entertainment Conference room, I could think of only one thing to present him. I walked into the room carrying a Papa Johns Pizza. Not saying a word, I walked up to where he was seated, knelt before him and presented him that iconic box. He and I just burst out laughing. No words! Just laughing! and naturally, we had to tell the story one more time to our curious co workers in the room that day. John was an amazing man and will be missed. I'm so blessed to have known him!

My brother In-law John had to be one of the smallest people I ever knew him and my dad taught me everything I know about cars of course his knowledge was way more vast than that and his infectious laugh that had been mentioned before Even he knew it was uncontrollable he would start to laugh and say that's it and then continue laughing for a minute or more I would have to say the fondest memory I haveIt's the night when John was coming to see Patrice they were not married yet I don't think Karen was married yet either my brother Kenny was home and me I had a Real to real tape recorder going Of their antics Karen and Patrice Started singing party doll John said I'll be the best boom boom boom boom boom boom boom if you know the song good And then Kenny joined in it was quite a recording I wish I still had it because after that he went into one of those laughs I know if my sister's read this and my brother they will remember that night It was pretty unforgettable John was awesome rest in peace

I was not a close friend of John’s, because I am the wife of a good friend of his at Sea World, Bill Waterman. Bill loved spending time talking to John! One of the few times I got to meet and talk to John was at Christmas, a number of years ago. I always made Christmas cookies for the people where my husband worked…and I made LOTS of them. This particular Christmas, Bill was off, but John had to work. We were able to drive the cookies in to Sea World, but needed to hurry because we had somewhere else to be. John drove ALL THE WAY from the audio shop out to the employee parking lot to pick up those cookies! It was a delight to meet him, and I could see then why my husband liked John so much!

I can hear his laugh to this day… big, loud, contagious laugh. I wish I could remember all the jokes he told and the countless times I left his office cracking up! He was also one of the kindest people I ever met. He became a trusted confidant, listening to my woes during some hard times.
He signed his notes with a big J and it took me a little time to figure it out but then his “Big J” became another laughing point.
I miss our time working together and hope to have some laughs again together in heaven. Love you, John.
