OBITUARY FOR RAYMOND R. URBANOVICH
Raymond R. Urbanovich, 100, passed peacefully to our heavenly Father on September 4, 2019. Formerly of Chicago, Il and Murray, Ky, he moved to Florida May, 2018 and resided at Serenades Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in the Villages, FL. He was surrounded by family as he entered eternal life. He survived his wife, Lillian (nee Zima) of 67 years. Surviving children are Dennis (Diane) Urban of Homewood, IL, Donna (Gene) Piwko of Florence, AZ and Linda (Jim) Porcher of Summerfield, FL. He had 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.He was born June 17, 1919 in Johnstown, PA. He was one of ten children and the sole survivor of his siblings. He left Johnstown, PA at the age of 16. Traveled west during the Great Depression and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he helped build roads and fight forest fires for a period of 3 years. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1943 and served in the European and Pacific theaters transporting troops during WWII.
When the war ended, he moved to Chicago where he met his wife, Lillian, and started a family.
He worked as a pipefitter at Crane Plumbing Co. in Chicago and at Sunbeam Corp. in Chicago as a stock clerk. During his retirement years, he began his new ‘career’ as a junk collector collecting aluminum cans and supplemented his income with recycling metals. He loved his wife’s Polish cooking, listening to polka music, watching TV, telling stories and engaging anyone he met in conversation. Other past times included playing checkers and shooting pool.
