Obituary

Wayne Rogers Godwin of Sarasota, Florida was born February 28, 1955 and passed away unexpectedly on October 10, 2022, age 67. Wayne was married to the love of his life and business partner Sheryl for 33 years. He was the father of Christina Cox of Georgia and Tim Cox of North Carolina. Loving grandfather of Gabriel and Destinee Defriece and Jaren Bailey of Georgia. Wayne is also survived by his brother David (Jane) Godwin of North Carolina. He was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews. Wayne was the owner and operator of Godwin Associates for 35 years, making many lifelong friends and business associates in the process.
Wayne loved Florida with its sunshine, the outdoors and especially his and Sheryl’s pickleball group of friends. He enjoyed classic cars, deep sea fishing and walking their Maltese dogs. He was a kind and loving man, treating everyone he met with respect, always willing to lend a helping hand to others. By his wishes, Wayne’s legacy as a loving, giving, compassionate person will continue as he has donated his organs through LifeLink so that others can have the gift of good health.
Arrangements were entrusted to Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home. There will be a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.

Sheryl, So sorry for your loss. As the oldest son of my mother's twin sister Wayne was my closest biological cousin. We spoke a few days after Sep 28th when Hurricane Ian hit . We hadn't seen each other in about three years since he visited me in Melbourne. He could always think of something positive to say about anyone.

I have known Wayne for thirty five years. Our business relationship evolved into a friendship that grew after I retired. In our hundreds of phone calls Wayne’s behavior was always consistent. He was upbeat, optimistic and always made you feel that you had his complete attention.
He was a caring , thoughtful man. He treated everyone with respect and enjoyed the success of friends and their families.
Wayne mentored younger people in the candy industry. He also showed a deep respect for older sales people and buyers who had retired years ago. Staying in touch with them and surely enriching their days.
Wayne was one of the good guys. So full of life it is hard to grasp that he is gone. My wife Joan and I send our deepest condolences to Sheryl. This has had to be the hardest week of your life.
We will think of Wayne often and are truly grateful we had him in our lives.

I have worked alongside Wayne for over 10 years, and although our business dealings were limited, I grew to consider him to be a friend, and not just my broker. I have always described Wayne as a gentleman's gentleman, a calm, caring, conscientious family man, detail oriented, hard working, and hard to get his feathers rustled. His passing is still a shock to me, and he will not be forgotten. RIP, buddy, the world will miss you. You were one of the good guys.

This is so Shocking, and unbelievably heart breaking... I left a really good medical sales job in 98' to come down to Stonehedge Farms at the age of 25. I basically new nothing about Food sales. Wayne was one of the first brokers I signed on with. 25 Years... he taught me so much.
always funny, professional, supportive. With us through all the highs and lows. Always the first one I would call to get his opinion on new items.
always passionate about business, challenges, and growth. I always enjoyed meeting at shows with him and his buyers, dinners, talking about Business as well as family, current events, hobbies, and million other things.
Wayne R.I.P, take care my brother.

Sheryl and family.... my deepest condolences I am so sorry for your loss.

Wayne stood out as a person, always eager to share, listen, learn… simply the kind you love to connect with personally and professionally. I am deeply saddened by this terrible news. So unexpected and so unreal. Words are never enough to describe loss and silence may be the best next alternative to say the right things.

He will be missed, but also remembered, even here in Belgium

To Sheryl and family: love transcends time and space and can never be lost.

Wayne, Tony and I will miss you more than words can express. You have been a role model of kindness and compassion, as well as a heck of a lot of fun. When we talk about memories, there are so many! Fishing, talking about classic cars, learning to play pickleball, hiking, annual visits, New York City excursions, going to the beach, walking/hiking, and on and on. We had so many more adventures planned that we were looking forward to sharing with you and Sheryl. It is hard to wrap my head around you not being here with us, planning the next adventure. It is hard to not feel cheated that we didn't have more time, because this sure doesn't feel like it was enough. You have been an awesome brother-in-law, the best anyone could ever hope for, as well as a wonderful uncle to our children. The words "thank you" seem so insufficient, but it is all that we have.
