Obituary

Abby Orme Jackson Parkerson passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 after a brief illness in Bonita Springs, Florida.  She was born September 11, 1923 the daughter of James Norcom Jackson and Abby Orme Jackson.  She grew up in New Orleans and Covington, LA and was a graduate of Lyon High in Covington.  She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, TN and was a nurses aide in Touro Hospital’s nursery  during World War II.  She was an artist, potter and a wonderful photographer and loved teaching art to children in her home studio.  Abby will be remembered for her love of people especially the underprivileged.  She moved to Sanibel Island, FL  in 1973 where she worked in the McIntosh Bookstore and later in life lived in Cape Coral, Florida.  She was predeceased by a brother James Norcom Jackson, Jr. and a sister Adele Jackson Kaars-Sypesteyn.  She was also predeceased by a son William Stirling Parkerson, III.  She is survived by two daughters Ann Parkerson Burke (Sean G.) and Mary Katherine Parkerson and 7 grandchildren – Katherine Gibbons Burke, Emily Burke Kazmierzak (Michael), Mary Burke Baker (Russell), Shannon Burke Fritts (Daniel), and Sarah Burke Heller (Alex), Julie Marie Neumeister and  William (Will) David Neumeister.  She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren Hannah Kazmierzak, Clara Kazmierzak, Henry Kazmierzak, Abigail Baker, Burke Baker, Dylan Fritts, Matthew Fritts, Connor Fritts, and Eleanor Heller. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Inspired Living and Joann’s House at Hope Hospice and her neighbors in Cape Coral who looked took such good care of her.  Also, many thanks to Robin Vasquez.  Because of COVID a memorial service will be held at a later date.

    I will always be grateful for having Abby in my life. She was empathetic, caring, kind, loving, and so very creative and talented. I loved being with her and enjoyed our time together always, especially when we were sharing our love of Art and seashells. Sending Love and Healing Prayers to her Family.

    I remember going to painting classes at Abby’s. I have two of my paintings on my wall. I also remember my mother (Isabel Markle Guinee saying “Abby says...”
