Obituary
AGNES ELIZABETH RICKMAN, affectionately known by all her family as Betty, GiGi, and Mimi, passed away of natural causes on October 1, 2020, at the age of 98 years. Betty was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, August 14, 1922, to William J. and Alice Benjamin Munsell. During WW2, Betty volunteered her services with the USO and as a Red Cross worker. In 1946 Betty married Lt. Col. Charles A Rickman. They were together for 49 years until he passed in 1995. During her 31 years as a military wife she lived in Japan, Germany and Thailand as well as military posts in California, Maryland, Kansas, and finally Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Betty was a successful golf enthusiast. Upon retirement in 1972 Lt. Col Rickman moved his family to Shelby Township, Michigan. Betty and Charles then entered the world of breeding and showing St. Bernard’s and Bearded Collies. As breeders and handlers, they showed dogs across the country which included the prestigious Westminster Dog Show.
Following her husband’s death in 1995, Betty resided in Romeo Michigan. There she worked as a lunch mom at Romeo High School for 10 years until her 90th birthday. Betty was never able to attend her own senior prom but upon her retirement she was made an honoree member of the senior class of 2012 of Romeo High School and was invited to attend her first Senior Prom. In 2013 Betty moved to North Potomac, MD to be with her son William. In 2017 Betty moved to The Villages, FL to be near her daughter, Linda. Betty’s legacy is her five children, Linda A. (Kevin) Flannery, Charles A. Rickman III, William J. (Janet) Rickman, Nancy J. (William) Buchanan, and Mary Houston, as well as her 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Betty lived a life full of love and compassion; she simply gave so much and asked for so little. Her Christian values truly sustained her zeal for life.
