Aires Sue Mitchum, 81, of Port Orange went to be with her Lord Tuesday, February 1, 2011 with her family by her side. A celebration of her life will be held 12 Noon, Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the New Life Church, 5321 S. Nova Road, Port Orange. The family will receive visitors at the church at 11:00 AM. Aires was born July 19, 1929 in Manning, SC. She married the love of her life, Furman L. Mitchum on April 3, 1949 and they shared a wonderful life together until his death in 2005. Aires had a heart larger than life. She always put others before herself. She was an avid reader and considered by her children as the world’s best cook, with southern fried chicken and pound cake being her specialties. She was a devout Christian and known by all to be a “prayer warrior”. Aries is survived by her eleven devoted children, Sharon Bartlett (Roger), Furman Jr., Michael (Kim), David (Robin), Paul (Diane) all of Edgewater, Ray (Brenda), Pam Owens (Paul), Eddie (Merritt) of New Smyrna Beach, Sandy Catalano (Greg), Dean (Lisa) of Santa Rosa Beach, Terri Lusk (Marc) of Banner Elk, NC; 30 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; 2 sisters. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marlene Jones.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church, PO Box 391, Manning, SC29102.

I was so saddened to hear of Sister Mitchum's passing. We all know that she is back with Ferman again and they will never be apart again. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. May God be with all of you at this time.
