Alan James Elliot, 64, of deLand died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center-Orange City with his wife by his side. Mr. Elliot was born August 21, 1945 in Akron, Ohio. He moved to this area in 1972 from Cleveland, OH. Mr. Elliot was a graduate of the FBI Academy and was an officer of the deLand Police Department for 25 years retiring in 2000 as Chief. He was very proud of his Native American heritage and enjoyed all outdoor activities. Alan was also an animal lover. Two being his favorite, Joey and Hersey his dogs. Alan is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Tonya; four children, Cynthia Elliot, Kristen Mithchell, Wendy Pode and Alan, Jr.; seven grandchildren and his siter, Royceanne Moore.
A celebration of Alan's life will be held around Thanksgiving at the West Voluisa Hospice Care Center, Orange City.
