Obituary

Dr. Alan R. Kaub, Ph.D., P.E., 75 years old, passed into the presence of God while at home in Summerfield, FL, on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Al or Bud, as many knew him, was born in Muskegon, Michigan on February 20, 1946, to Richard and Luella (Charles) Kaub. He was the second eldest of six (6) children and grew up to become a wonderful, caring, generous, Christian man.

He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech. He obtained his Ph.D. at the UW Madison and was a well-respected Transportation Engineering professor at UW-Platteville and USF-Tampa. His passions were education and public speaking. In 1966 he married the love of his life, Barbara Lofgren, in Muskegon. Together they lived happily with their three children for 20 years in Madison, WI, and for five years in Tampa, FL. His hobbies involved golfing, refurbishing cars and boats, boating, sailing, day trading and singing. All those around him meant the world to him and he did his best to make sure they felt acknowledged and appreciated. His laughter and smile were infectious, and his countless jokes will truly be missed.

He is survived by his immediate family, Kristie (Doug) Taylor of Scottsdale, AZ, and Kathy Heard, Julia and Lawson Heard (grandchildren) of Clermont, FL; his siblings, Karen Wickstrom, Sue Kaub, Diane Kaub, Brian (Debbie) Kaub, and Lori (Keith) Miller; his sister-in-law, Patti Finegan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Luella Kaub; mother-in-law and father-in law,Betty and Gail Lofgren; wife, Barbara; son, John; brothers-in-law, Bill Finegan and Bernard Wickstrom.

Services will be held at Mears Cemetery in Mears, Michigan on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 11am with Pastor Anne Riegler of Mears United Methodist Church.

Bud will rest peacefully with Christ in the family plot at Silver Lake, MI.

When I met Alan Kaub I immediately knew why I loved his daughter so much. I was just a teenage kid. He taught me things I still use today & I remember him every time I do. He was fair, honest, smart & loved his family more than anything. Rest in peace Dr Kaub. You will be missed.

Many fond memories of Al growing up. I still remember him trying to teach me how to drive a snowmobile. My dad told him I was to small for that size of a snowmobile. Al said non sence and it was too big for me. I ran over the tops of all the poplar trees as it was one of those winters with high amounts of snow.

My Grandpa was kind, fun and very generous. We have made a lot of good memories with him, like going to lunch/dinner, and my brother and I telling him all about what we were doing in school, band, etc. He loves his family a lot, and he will always have a special place in my heart. I will miss him a lot, but I know that he is in heaven looking down in all of us!

My Grandpa was a fun, amazing, and a generous grandpa. One thing that I loved was how he would take us to an arcade, me and my sister would always climb the rock wall while he cheered us on as we would try to make it to the top. I will always miss his smile and the nicknames he had for me, the one he called me by the the most was bud.

Wonderful memories of my brother! We both worked for our father building houses and we learned many valuable lessons about life, work and doing your best. He was the Best Man at our wedding. He was a deep thinker but loved to make fun decisions on the spur of the moment. He will be missed!

We will all miss you Al. You have touched so many people in this life and one of them was me!! Will never forget your laugh and how much you loved your family. Had many good times together at Silver Lake too. You and Grampa were so instrumental in teaching me to "toughen up" as a teen and work that construction every summer. Thanks for the hugs, memories, and love throughout the years.

    Your grateful nephew,

    Mike
