Obituary

Alan Louis Micohen

Mr. Micohen passed away peacefully on March 24, 2022, in Orlando, Florida. He was 74 at the time of his passing.

Mr. Micohen was born on December 7th, 1947, Pearl Harbor Day, in Portland, Maine to his father, Hyman “Mike” Micohen, and his mother, Selma Micohen (née Berenson, deceased). He was a Regional Sales Manager with Panasonic which allowed him to travel the States before having to leave the company as his life-long health struggles forced him to draw from disability in his later years.

Mr. Micohen, his first wife, and daughters came to Florida in 1988 for a fresh start. As a long-time resident of the Winter Park community, Mr. Micohen spent many years loving to cook, speaking of his days in Maine, especially of the Amato’s Italian deli which he held in the highest regard, loving and sharing time with his family, and always taking pride in everything he did. After undergoing a leg amputation in 2018, Mr. Micohen enjoyed spending time with other amputees to whom he always provided words of encouragement.

Mr. Micohen is survived by his father, Mike Micohen, his first wife and mother of his children, Edwyna “Eddi” Micohen, his daughters, Alicia Somsak (née Micohen, married to Will Somsak), Suzanne Dickson (née Micohen, married to Brian Dickson), Deborah “Debbie” Micohen, his brother, David Micohen (married to Lynne Micohen), his niece, Leah Micohen, his nephew, Daniel Micohen, his grandchildren, Ashley Stull (née Dickson, married to Eric Stull), Jackson Dickson, and Jake Somsak, and his life-long, childhood best friend who was a brother to him, Donald Levy.

Mr. Micohen’s last wishes were to be cremated, and his ashes spread in Portland, Maine. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Dementia Society of America or the American Heart Association.

    Dear Micohen family,
I am sorry to hear of your loss of Alan. We knew each other as Deering High School, Maine classmates. I remember him as a nice and caring person. And, yes, Amato Italian sandwiches are an iconic Maine "thing" and most of us treasure Amato's to this day.

I am sad to hear of his passing.
