Obituary

Albert Paul Adams, 87, passed away on October 25, 2017, while underway aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Paul was born on June 19, 1930, New Orleans, Louisiana, to Albert Sidney and Pauline T. Adams, the oldest of 11 children. Paul served in the US Navy in the Pacific from 1947 to 1950 as Seaman First Class.  Shortly thereafter he met his bride, Wilma Fae South, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

In 1951 Paul began a long career in the US Postal Service as a clerk in the Memphis Post Office. Transferring to Florida in 1960, he rose through the ranks to become the Sanibel Island Postmaster in 1972. During his administration the Sanibel office increased in size from 4 to 27 full time employees and a new post office was constructed on the island. During the 1980s, Paul trained all new postmasters in Southwest Florida. After his retirement in 1989, Paul served as guide in the Thomas Alva Edison Winter Home, Fort Myers, and as a real state agent in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Paul was a faithful Christian throughout his life, serving as elder at McGregor Blvd Church of Christ in Fort Myers and Beville Road Church of Christ in Daytona Beach. Paul loved to spend time with his family, was an excellent swimmer, went spin fishing, and played golf at every opportunity. He served as President and Secretary-Treasurer of Toastmasters International in Lakeland and Vice President of the Rotary Club in Sanibel, Florida. Paul is survived by his wife, Marianne, his daughters, Julie and Sheila, his son, Kenneth, his sisters, Eunice, Harriet, Ann, and Ethel, his brothers, Jack, Pete, and Tom, his grandsons, David, Sean and James, and his great grandsons, Gavin and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilma Fae, and his brothers Lee, Frank, and Rick.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, at the Beville Road Church of Christ, 850 Beville Road, Daytona Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Mount Dora Children’s Home, 301 W 13th Avenue, Mt. Dora, Florida, 32757.

I just learned today of my Uncles passing. He was a kind gentleman and wonderful husband to my Aunt Wilma Fae. I have fond memories of him from my childhood and I was hoping to get a chance to play golf with him one day. Ken, Julie and Sheila please know that I share your grief. I have just heard that my Uncle Paul passed away. He was a great man and always enjoyable to be around. I have fond memories of the many times he and Aunt Fae took me to the movies with them and my cousins, Ken and Julie, when I was a kid in Memphis. I remember him helping me learn how to ride a bike.
I was very saddened to hear this news. We have lost a truly wonderful person.
