Obituary

Albert D. Donovan, Jr., 97, passed away on February 3, 2022, in Ormond Beach, FL. He was born on November 4, 1924, in Waterloo, Iowa to parents Albert Donovan Sr. and Nellie Overton.

Albert graduated from Northern Iowa University and went on to join the Merchant Marines where he graduated from Kings Point academy as an Ensign. He served in active duty in WWII and won several awards. He later taught College as a Professor of Chemistry and worked as an efficiency expert for many years. Before he retired, he also owned dental supply company.

Albert enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and pickle ball, as well as singing in the church choir at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. He was a member of Kopy Kats and Follies thru the Performing Arts Center, where he performed on stage in several shows over the years. He was also a member of the Elks and the Moose lodge, as well as a staunch Republican.

Albert was predeceased by his first wife Susan Johnson of Casselberry, FL and Bravard, NC, and his second wife Margo Donovan of Ormond Beach, FL and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter Regina Howlett and granddaughter, Cartier Howlett, both of Boardman, Ohio. He is also survived by his cats Fonzy and Fancy and his dogs Ozzy and Poppy, all of whom he dearly loved.

Albert was an amazing man, generous to a fault, and he is loved by his family and friends. His love and memory will live in our hearts forever.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Mass with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32176.
