In Loving Memory of Alexander Kracun

Alex Kracun was a devoted public servant, decorated veteran, and beloved by family. Born in Salzburg, Austria, he immigrated to the United States at the age of three. He was raised in North Chicago, Illinois and later made his home in Florida following his military service. Alex passed away on December 19, 2025, leaving behind a powerful legacy of courage, service, and unwavering dedication to others.

Alex proudly served his country in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War. In recognition of his bravery and commitment, he earned numerous decorations, including the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His military service shaped a lifetime defined by discipline, leadership, and selflessness.

Following his military service, Alex devoted more than 40 years to leadership and lifesaving roles in fire and rescue. His distinguished career included service as District Chief of the Orlando International Airport Fire Rescue, Chief of Training for the City of Maitland Fire Department, Fire Chief of Orlando Sanford International Airport Fire Rescue, and Assistant Chief of the City of Titusville Fire Department. His steady leadership, technical expertise, and calm, presence earned the respect and admiration of colleagues across Central Florida.

Known as a dedicated, loyal, and compassionate leader, Alex exemplified what it truly meant to serve others. He mentored countless firefighters and paramedics, led by example, and never hesitated to place the well-being of others before his own. To those who worked alongside him, he was not only a chief, but a trusted colleague, mentor, and friend.

Above all else, Alex was a loving and devoted husband. He shared a deep and enduring bond with Judy, his wife of 31 years, whose love and partnership were central to his life. He took immense pride in his stepdaughters and granddaughter and cherished every moment spent with them.

Alex is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughters, Stacey Bennett of St. Louis, Missouri, and Ashley Bennett of Tallahassee, Florida; his granddaughter, Adison Pronovost of Manchester Center, Vermont; his sister, Lillian Michna of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his brother, George Kracun of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and his nephews, Douglas Michna of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Vincent Michna of Suprise, Arizona, along with extended family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable career.

Alex will be remembered for his strength, integrity, loyalty, and generous heart. His service, leadership, and love leave an enduring mark that will never be forgotten.
