Obituary

Alfred “Al” Carl Gutknecht, 84, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018 under the care of Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.  Al was born to Clarence and Bernice Gutknecht on February 26, 1934.  He graduated from Grove City, Ohio high School in 1951.  Following his high school graduation, he went on to receive a B.S. Degree in 1956 from Ohio State University. He served in the US Army proudly. Al also worked for Pepsi Cola Company. He married his first wife Charlotte Ann Ihrig on June 10, 1967 who preceded him in death on January 22, 2005.  After moving to The Villages, he became a Volunteer Cook for Cornerstone Hospice and a member and Usher for Hope Lutheran Church.  He was also an avid Tennis Player at the Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne, IN and again played here in The Villages, FL. He was a fun-loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa brother and friend who will be greatly missed. Al is survived by 3 children; Jeffrey (Danna) Gutknecht, Jon (Jill) Gutknecht, and Stephen Gutknecht; grandchildren; Kristina (Chris) Porter, Ashley Gutknecht, Jenna (Robert) Ellis, Jackie Gutknecht, Jason and Alex; great granddaughters; Amelia Moore and Madeline Porter.  Al is also survived by his loving wife Phyllis who he married October 7, 2006; Phyllis’s children, Mike (Maria) Dexter, Joy (Troy) Silvers and Mark (Jennifer) Dexter; and Phyllis’s grandchildren, Taylor Silvers, Jordan Silvers, Dylan Dexter and Morgan Dexter and a sister, Sharon Strand.   A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, FL on May 30, 2018 at 11 am.   A luncheon will follow the service and at this time family and friends will be given the opportunity to share their memories.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella The Villages, FL 32162.
