Obituary

Alfred Millard Robinson Jr., 80, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully in Ocala, Florida, surrounded by family, on November 22, 2023

He was born in Gainesville, Florida, on December 8, 1942, to Alfred M. “Bud” Robinson and Dorothy Maude Branch Robinson. He graduated from Gainesville High in 1961 and married Sylvia Parks Robinson, his high school sweetheart, in the same year.

Al worked with his father as a contractor, and his work includes neighborhoods around the Gainesville area as well as the home he shared with his family. He served as the music director at Calvary Baptist in the 1960s, and was an active member at North Central Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving in the choir, as a deacon, in discipleship training, and assisting with Wednesday night dinners along with various other areas of service.

He was a past president of Happy Sams Camping Club of North Central Florida, where he and his wife were members for a number of years. He traveled extensively with his family throughout North America, dabbled in carpentry and architecture, and could fix pretty much anything. He served in a leadership role of the band boosters while his daughters were in school, and was a strong supporter of their interests.

Al is survived by Sylvia Parks Robinson, his wife of 62 years, and his two daughters Kimberly Gainer (husband Phillip) and Marlo Dube (husband Robert), as well as six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and his sister, Reda Waters (husband Paul). He is preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service is 2:00pm Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Eliam Cemetery in Melrose, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or Hospice of Marion County.

Marlo, so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I know what it feels like to lose a Dad. I was very close to mine. It was so difficult to let him go, but knowing he would be with God made it a little more easy. Take this time to grieve & know he is blessed. Love to you & your family.
