Obituary

Alice "Ilse" Bowdon, 82, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, passed away on December 25, peacefully, at her home.   Born in 1927 in Germany, she emigrated to Santiago Chile in 1938, and then emigrated once again, shortly before her 18th birthday, this time to the United States. Alice's enjoyed a distinctive career as an educator, devoting 30 years teaching in a residential community for disabled children, many of whom shared the same disability (cerebral palsy) that Alice faced throughout her life.   In the mid '50s, Alice met and married the love of her life, Eugene ("Sonny"),  her loving companion for over five decades.    In the mid 1980s, Alice retired to her "paradise" in New Smyrna Beach, where she and Sonny have lived since, enjoying numerous valued friendships that endured through the years.  Among her most treasured relationships were those with her caretakers whose hard work and heartfelt dedication that enhanced the quality of her final years.    Besides Sonny, Alice is survived by four nephews and nieces, eleven grand nephews and nieces, an aunt, and Sonny's sister and nephew. She was predeceased by her father, Rudi, mother, Lisalotte, and by her sister, Ellen. Alice also treasured a relationship with one of her students, Richard, whom Alice cherished as though he was her son.    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trial, Port Orange, FL 32128. 11:00 AM at Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 on December 31, 2010 (map/driving directions) 10:00 Am to 11:00 AM at Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 on December 31, 2010 (map/driving directions) Edgewater - New Smyrna Cemetery 700 Ridgewood Avenue Edgewater, FL 32132 (map/driving directions)

    Dear Mr. Bowdon,

I am very sorry for the death of your dear loved one. Although the pain will seem unbearable at times, please find comfort that there is a day coming when this earth will be filled with happy people and peace will be everywhere and Mrs. Bowdon will be there to enjoy it (Psalms 37:10,11,29). My sincere condolences to you.
