Obituary

Allan K. Shields, 80, of New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away on January 11th after a valiant battle with cancer.Al was born on December 11th, 1939. After graduating from Lawrence High School, he went on to receive a Bachelors degree and an MBA from Adelphi University in New York State. Al was captain of the campus police force while attending Adelphi. After graduation, he landed his first job as a salesperson for 3M, kicking off a successful 35-year career in sales. Al was a commissioner in the Meadowmere Park Volunteer Fire Department while he lived in New York. In 1959, he met Jennie (Sicari), and they wed in 1963, going on to have two children, Patty and her husband John and Allan and his wife Heather. After retiring in 1998, Al spent his time golfing and going on cruises with his loving wife and spoiling his 7 grandchildren as much as possible.Al is predeceased by his parents, sister Helen Shields and his brothers James and Barney. He is survived by his wife, Jennie; his sister, DeEtta Breitwieser ; his two children, Patty Giles, and Allan Shields and his seven grandchildren, Marissa, Kristina, Jessica, Sabrina, Carson, Kendall and Cooper. A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Chapel in New Smyrna Beach, FL on Wednesday, January 15th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
