Al Schleinz, 91, of Fort Meyers, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 1, 2019.  Born May 10, 1928 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Violet (Schoenberger) Schleinz, he enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1946 where he was the proud recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal while serving in Japan.  On November 3, 1951, he married Mary Ann Strahota at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sheboygan, WI.  They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family at Sunset Hills Country Club in Pekin, IL the summer of 2001.  Mary Ann passed away July 4, 2013.

After selling their business, Central Illinois Bandag, Al and Mary Ann relocated from Pekin IL to Ft. Myers, Florida where they enjoyed sunshine, golf, wonderful friends and neighbors at Olde Hickory Golf & Country Club.  Al enjoyed attending the 11:15 Sunday mass at St. John XXIII up until a year ago when a fall and subsequent health problems relocated him to Discovery Village at the Forum, assisted living in Ft. Myers.  Here he made it a priority to take the bus to St Vincent de Paul Church on Saturday afternoons for mass and as always, was appreciative of each day and every visitor!  Al’s positive attitude throughout his life was an example for all.

Al is survived by his son, Jim (Teresa) Schleinz of Mahomet, Illinois and daughter, Karol (Robert) Soucy of Bedford, New Hampshire; 8 grandchildren, Scott (Kristin) Schleinz, Brad Schleinz, Kurt (Jessica) Schleinz, Jacob Schleinz, Wesley Earl Brown, Nicole Soucy, Daniel Soucy, and Michael Soucy; 5 great-grandchildren ranging in ages from 10 to 3:  Mayson, Tanner, Rylan, Finn and June Schleinz; a brother, Frank (Rita) and a sister Joyce, sister-in-law, Jan Schleinz, many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Al will be warmly remembered and fondly missed by all who knew him. Al was preceded in death by his mother, Violet, his father, Francis; his daughter, Karen Brown, his son Michael; his brothers, Marvin, Harold, and Gerald; his sister Joanne;  his mother & father-in-law Dorothy (Molitor) and Earl Strahota; brother-in-laws Bob Dortman and Ronnie Greger, and sister-in-law Joanie (Strahota) Greger, and Rosalind Schleinz.

A mass of Christian Burial for Al will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the St. John XXIII  Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, 13060 Palomino Lane, Ft. Myers at 10am with Father Bob Tabbert officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at St. John XXIII Memorial Garden immediately following.

The Al Schleinz Family is grateful for the loving care received from the staff at Discovery Village for the past year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John XXIII in Ft. Myers or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
