Alyce Marie “Lolly” Hickcox
5/11/1924 – 1/8/2019
Alyce Marie Hickcox, known to all as “Lolly”, 94, of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Southbury, CT, passed away after a brief illness, at home on January 8, 2019, with her son Craig and her special friend Wendy Conley at her side. Lolly was born May 11, 1924 in Rye, NY, daughter of Joseph and Alice (Cullen) Sloat. She grew up in Rye, NY and in 1946 married the love of her life, Richard E. Hickcox, after he returned from the war. They had 64 wonderful years of marriage together. Lolly and Richard spent several years living in Westchester County, NY and in 1957 settled in Valley Cottage, NY where they raised their family. Lolly was a homemaker, the best Mom in the world to her four children and a great friend to all that knew her. In 1983, Lolly moved to Southbury, CT. For the past 40 years, Lolly’s second home was New Smyrna Beach, FL. She first came to New Smyrna Beach on her honeymoon in 1946. Lolly was an inspiration and loved by everyone. She was always happy and quick witted with a strong, feisty and independent spirit. In her final days of sickness, she never complained and always thought about those less fortunate than herself. Lolly always put the needs and concerns of others before her own. A devout Catholic, until recent years Lolly attended daily Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea, in New Smyrna Beach Fl. Her husband Richard Hickcox and her brothers Joseph Sloat, Frank Sloat and Bobby Sloat predeceased her. She is survived by her sons, Richard Hickcox and Craig Hickcox of New Smyrna Beach, Fl, her daughters, Leslie Hickcox of Oceanside, CA and Nanci Zimmerman (Todd) of New Milford, CT and 2 grandchildren, Chelsey Zimmerman of Ireland and Abbey Zimmerman of Winter Park, FL. Services celebrating Lolly’s life will be held Friday, January 18, 2019, 5pm to 7:30pm at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, 1 No. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, 10:00am, at Our Lady Star of The Sea, New Smyrna Beach, FL. A graveside service will take place at a later date at Greenwood Union Cemetary, Rye, NY. Lolly was a lover of animals and in lieu of flowers a memorial gift may be made in Lolly’s name to the ASPCA.
