Obituary

Amy (Rudell) Flom, age 55, of Oviedo, Florida went home to her Lord and Savior January 7, 2017.  Amy was born and raised in Wausau, Wisconsin.

She attended the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary (Environmental) Studies in 1982. She moved to southern California and began her career in environmental planning and met her husband Brad Flom. The couple were married on December 1, 1990 and were blessed with 26 years of marriage. Amy gave birth to her daughter Elise Leah in 1992. She and her young family left California to return to her beloved Wisconsin in 1995, where she raised Elise and continued her career. Amy dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to the field of environmental planning and renewable energy.

The Flom family relocated to Oviedo, FL in 2005 and soon after Amy began her second career in Animal Therapy.  Amy combined her professional abilities, with her masterful animal training skills with her compassion for people, becoming the Program Coordinator for Paws for Hope at Orlando Health Animal Therapy Program. She believed deeply in the power of therapy dogs to bring joy, comfort, and healing to those in need. Amy loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed running, biking and hiking. While in her 50’s, Amy completed four marathons and was most proud of completing a blustery New York City marathon in 2014. Throughout her life, Amy was passionate about horses and became an accomplished dressage rider.  Amy died doing what she loved, riding her horse.

Amy is survived by her husband, her daughter Elise Crawford and her son-in-law Ryan, her sister Vicki, and brother Chris. She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Mary Rudell.

A Memorial service is scheduled for January 28, 2017 starting at 11:00 AM will be held at Northland Church, 530 Dog Track Road, Longwood, FL. A brief reception with refreshments will follow and be located in the church lobby.

Dear Brad and Elise, I was so saddened to hear of your loss of sweet Amy. I met you when you brought Elise to my Day Care when she was barely a toddler and I immediately fell in love with them both. Amy was so beautiful inside and out and she touched me with her gentleness and joyful spirit. I was sad to see them go when you moved to WI, but hearing of her accomplishment since then was a path well taken. I will always have her in my heart as will as Elise. My prayers and blessings are extended to you both.

Dear Brad and Elise, I was so saddened to hear of your loss of Amy at such a young age. I met you and Amy when you brought Elise to my Day Care when Elise was barely a toddler. I fell in love with both of them. Amy was so beautiful inside and out and it makes my heart sing to hear of all her accomplishments she attained since she left California. She became a friend in such a short time and I missed your all when you left for WI.Even in such a short time she touched my heart and I will never forget her. My prayers and blessings are extended to you andElise.

Amy touched a lot of lives and helped make the world a better place. Everyone who knew her loved her. I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with her on renewable energy development plans and projects over several years and to count her not only as a colleague but as a friend. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She will be missed by all. We will never forgot her.

Lakeshore Technical College erected 3 of their 4 campus turbines with We Energies grants administered by Amy. It took me several years to figure out that she was out of state and not in Milwaukee. With her prompting 2 Serbian graduate students contacted LTC for a joint project, which was also a success. She was always fun after the business was done.
My deepest sympathies to the family.

To Amy's loved ones, both family and friends, I deeply wish I could be there today to tell you in person how much of an impact Amy had on my life. Although I only had the chance to know her for two years, she was an incredible mentor and friend. I looked up to her so much, and she is exactly the kind of person I hope to be in the future.
She gave me life changing advice the last time I spoke with her before the holidays, and now that I'm following the path she put me on, I couldn't be happier...and I have her to thank for that.
She touched so many lives, and I can only hope to do the same on this new adventure. She inspired me and I know she inspired others to spread joy and love, and I know that her legacy will carry on through those she has impacted ❤️
Sending my prayers to you all today, and wishing you the best during this difficult time...

I am so sorry to all who loved Amy. I got to know Amy through working as her Real Estate Agent a few years ago. We stayed in touch and I got to know her better and I loved the person I got to know. My relationship with her went beyond a working relationship and I came to care about her as a friend. Through knowing Amy, she was there as a friend to me when I was going through some hard times with one of my kids. She was understanding and caring and offered support. Working with her was always a lot of fun. I learned a lot about horse properties and always enjoyed our outings to see different properties. She was an incredibly loyal client and friend. She loved being a mom and that showed anytime she spoke about her daughter. She loved her husband and you could see that any time I met with them. And she loved her animals for sure! I know her loss will be missed by many. I can’t even imagine the loss that will be felt by those that are closer to her. She was made up of understanding, patience, kindness, respect, understanding, strength, and friendship. And I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to get to know her. I will not forget her.

Amy and I shared a friendship with no judgement. We grew up together not always knowing the great gift we had. We shared so much, spending our time riding horses and growing into beautiful young ladies, while loving and laughing as we traveled through time. Last time we saw each other it was as if we never parted, that's just how it was with us. She always amazed me by her love and determination toward anything she did. A part of my soul has left with her.

My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I had the pleasure of meeting Amy in Bible study. She was someone who was instrumental in getting me involved with the canine companion ministry through Northland Church. We both share the love for golden retrievers. She was such a warm hearted loving person. I am so thankful that she got me involved in this program. I visit the nursing homes once a month and it brings me such joy. Now you have a wonderful guardian angel to look over your family. She is home now but will truly be missed. May God comfort you and your family.

How can one even begin to express sufficient sympathy for the loss of such a treasure to the human and animal kingdoms. It can be so hard to understand why at a time like this. We must have faith that a higher power has a good reason. Someone somewhere needed her even more than did we. It's hard to imagine that could be possible but I know she is somewhere continuing her generosity. Our grief is directly proportional to our love for the one we lost. We were lucky to have such a wonderful person in our lives...
