Obituary

Andrew George Gartner was born August 5, 1924 in north of Renville, MN to Anton and Therese Gartner Sr.  Andy grew up in Kingman Township.  Andy was united in marriage to Eleanor Shamla on May 1, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island.  They had eight children.  Andy farmed for many years near Bird Island and worked as a carpenter for a construction company.  He was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in The Villages, FL, and Annunciation Catholic Church in Longwood, FL and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Andy served the community as a member and treasurer of the Kingman Township Board and coached his children’s 4-H softball teams for many years.  In 1999 he moved to The Villages in FL and in 2012 to Longwood, FL where he died on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Andy is survived by his wife, Eleanor Gartner of Longwood, FL, seven of his children:  Steve (Carol) Gartner of Parker, CO; Mary (Del) Breland  of Frederick, MD; Bob (Marilyn) Gartner of Buffalo, MN; Greg (Pam) Gartner of Gardner, KS; Jane Gartner of Minneapolis, MN; John (Marian) Gartner of Altamonte Springs, FL; and Kathy (Richard) DeOlivera of Denver, CO; his 15 grandchildren; and his 15 great-grandchildren.  Andy was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan, his parents, and one brother, George Gartner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11:00am, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bird Island, MN.   Visitation will be held in the church vestibule at 10:00am, 1 hour prior to the service.  Burial will be directly following Mass
