Obituary

Ann Veronica Crossman (Cunningham), age 77, of Edgewater, Florida died peacefully in her home Monday, November 2, 2020 with her husband and children by her side. Born in 1943 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Ann grew up in Medford. Her late parents were Robert B. and Anna V. (Kilty) Cunningham.  She graduated from Girls Catholic in 1961 and the Malden Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 where she was awarded “Best Student Nurse in Pediatrics.”  Just before graduation, she was married in the Immaculate Conception Church to Donald Crossman.  The couple relocated to Vermont where their three children were born. After moving to Massachusetts, Ann worked for many years as a charge nurse at the East Longmeadow Nursing Home, The Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow and the Sisters of Providence, home for retired religious in Holyoke, Massachusetts. While living in Massachusetts, she was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Springfield where she sang in the choir and fostered a love of music in her children. Prior to relocating to Florida, she attended mass at Saint Michael’s Parish in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She attended the Edgewater Alliance Church in Florida where she participated in small group meetings, religious course work and community service.

Ann was a beautiful example of God’s love and a constant loving presence for her dear grandchildren. She was a volunteer at Halifax Hospice and continued to offer companionship and assistance to the elderly. She enjoyed planting flower gardens, was a voracious reader and was drawn to the ocean. She was a master of visual strategy games and regularly played Qwirkle with her daughter Alaena. In later years, she enjoyed conversations around the card table with her beloved husband Don and their good friends. Ann would strike up a conversation with everyone she met and quickly became known in her community. Her smile and laughter will be greatly missed. May we honor her light in all that we do until we are together again.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Donald Crossman of Edgewater, Florida; daughter Andrea Goodrich and her husband Brendan of Cheshire, Connecticut; daughter Alaena Podmore and her husband Paul of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; son Robert Crossman and his wife Natasha of Ocala, Florida; her brother Paul Cunningham and his wife Mary of Melrose, Massachusetts; sister in law Lee Jolley and husband Rob of Alabaster, Alabama; and Jamie Tufts and husband Norman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.  She leaves behind her loved grandchildren: Domenic, Anna and Leah DeFusco, Foster Crossman, Benjamin and Jacob Podmore and Hannah Zelman, nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Services are private and are being handled by Baldwin Brothers. Donations may be made to Halifax Hospice in Volusia County, Florida. The family would like to thank the caring staff members of Halifax Hospice, members of the church community and the many thoughtful neighbors who offered support in various forms during this difficult time.

As we were leaving her neighborhood for the last time, mom sent a full double rainbow that stretched completely over the dolphin pier where we sought solace every day over the past few weeks. I don't believe in coincidences. I believe in God and everlasting life.
