Obituary

Anna Kania, 70, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Born in 1953, Anna was adopted by John and Regene Kelley. She graduated from Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Ill. in 1971. In 1973, she met her soulmate, Richard (Rick) Kania, they began dating in 1978 and were married in 1981. Anna and Rick had two daughters, Kelley and Katherine (Katie). Anna and Rick resided in Lombard for 23 years before moving to Omaha, Neb. in 2004. They returned to Illinois in 2015 after Anna retired from Alcatel-Lucent after a long career as a project manager. In 2022, they moved to Florida.

Anna’s outgoing and vivacious personality attracted friends at every step along her journey. Caring for and supporting her family and friends were the most important things to her. She was always there to take a call from family and friends in need, or to talk through a challenge and share her sage advice on navigating life’s crossroads. She enjoyed taking cruises with her husband and family, spending time with her toes in the sand and ocean, and sewing keepsakes for loved ones. “Nana Anna” also loved spending time with her granddaughters. Anna’s caring and compassion for others extended beyond her death, as her decision to be an organ donor will extend the lives of others who never had the opportunity to meet her.

The loss of Anna is mourned by her husband Rick, daughters Kelley (Matt) Baylor and Katie (Jimmy) Viscomi; sisters Pam (Bud) Williams and Karen Kelley, brother Tim Kelley, close cousin Jani (Jim) Moselund; granddaughters Jordan and Elizabeth (Ellie) Viscomi; her “baby dog” Boo, extended family, and many friends she attracted on her life journey. She is preceded in death by her parents.

No formal celebration of life is planned at this time. The family asks that friends and family raise a glass to toast a treasured memory you shared with Anna.  In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials may be made the American Stroke Association.

Rick, I am so sorry for your loss. Anna has been part of my life since she was in 8th Grade. There is no one like her. I remember hearing the story of her parents going to the center of the roller skating rink where they went on weekends. Over the loud speaker it was announced: "Mr. and Mrs. Kelley are the proud parents of a baby girl." And what a special girl she was. To know her was to love her...and to laugh yourself silly. I know that your heart is breaking, Rick. I also know that Anna is watching over you. The last time we saw you was about 5 years ago after Ken and I were married. I'm so glad we could spend that precious time with you. Story - you're moving back to Chicago and you have the rent-a-truck. Anna swears the truck is 6 inches shorter than they said. Of course she was right. The leasing company measured diagonally, not front to back. Gotta love her. Yes, we all did. Miss you, Rick and love you!!

Oh how my heart is breaking. Anna and I have been friends for 53 years and I will miss her dearly. We talked on the phone at least once a week and luckily, I had the pleasure of seeing her and Rick at their beautiful home in Florida. I have so many wonderful memories. I will miss her terribly. Hugs to all of you and please know that I am heartbroken. This one hit me extra hard. Such a horrible shock. God bless she chose to donate.

Rick, we are very sorry to hear about Anna. Gone too soon, we have missed you both since you moved, but this is really a shock, she was still young and had lots of things left to do. Again, so very sorry for your loss.

Anna was delightful. She was a true friend to my mom, Eleanor, and thus a friend to me. She was always quick with a laugh and a positive word. Our deepest condolences to Rick, Katie and Kelley and the rest of their family as they navigate this sad journey. Peace. ♥️
