Obituary
Anne Rollin Woodruff Brown, 83, of Fort Myers, Florida died peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Lake Wales, Florida. She was born in Washington D.C. on March 5, 1941 to Marion Taft Woodruff and Frances Gertrude Emerson.
She attended the University of Maryland as a young woman and earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Columbia Green Community College when she was in her forties.
Anne Brown had a green thumb and thoroughly enjoyed working in the family vegetable garden and her flower beds in New Baltimore. She turned her home in Coxsackie into an oasis of trees, bushes, and flower beds. Upon retirement from New York State employment, she moved to Fort Myers where she volunteered her gardening skills to the Edison/Ford Estate. Her greatest joy was to bring her compost materials there for their use.
She was an artist since childhood. She turned her talents into a craft business where she sold at fairs and festivals across New York State and beyond.
She was passionate about the arts, often volunteering at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, and watching numerous plays and ballets with her longtime partner Wayne Nelson. With him, she also enjoyed Tango, Swing, and other styles of dancing. They traveled the world together and enjoyed the arts and dancing wherever they went.
Anne was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Rosemary Pollons and brother Marshall Woodruff, and her ex-husband Ralph MacNeil Brown. She is survived by her 3 children Daren Brown (Lisa), Hilary Chinnery (Lincoln) and Keith Brown (Jennifer), her grandchildren Marissa, Christian, Elizabeth, Allie, and Seb; and her partner, Wayne Nelson; as well as numerous wonderful and caring friends.
The family is forever grateful for the loving care that was given to our mother by everyone at Good Shepherd Hospice. There will be no calling hours. The family will have a private memorial services at a later time.
