Obituary

Anthony (Tony) Newton Stout, LTC (USA-Ret) 87, passed away on January 2, 2022 with the majority of his family by his side.

Tony served 27 years on active duty in the Army, 15 of those in Special Forces. His duty stations were wide ranging and included: Ft Bragg NC., Selfridge AFB MI., and Ft Leavenworth KS.; as well as overseas assignments in Vietnam (where he received their highest military award), Germany, Panama, and Saudi Arabia.  His career included being an instructor at the Armed Forces Staff College, a commander at multiple levels within the Army command structure, and a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. In addition to his military career, he held a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas and a Master’s Degree from the George Washington University.

After his retirement from the military and the move to Cape Coral in 1982, his passion for the water led him to a second career as a Charter Boat Captain and Fishing Guide. He loved the water, boating, fishing and instructing; so teaching people how to fish was a natural fit, and he did this for 33 years. His beloved grandson Ryan Washam is waiting for his grandpa to go fishing with him again.

Tony’s parents were the honorable Judge Alexander Royce Stout and Irma Newton Stout. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, sons: Lon and Mark (Melissa), daughters: Tonya Van Gemert and Teri Cannady (Carl); with 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
