Obituary

Arlene Lee Wiley, 86, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away in her home June 15, 2021. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Wiley; daughter, Kim Wiley; and granddaughter, Allison Wagner.

A trailblazer in all things, Arlene embraced all life had to offer, especially in her retirement, and was blessed with a life of travel and love. She cherished every soul who came into her life and welcomed them into her home, always with a glass of wine and tray of cheese, and by the time they left, they were her family. With everyone she met, Arlene took a moment to connect.

From humble beginnings in Michigan to a blissful second life in Florida, Arlene took her C-Suite Executive Assistant background and deployed it in all things. Whether it was managing a home while her husband helped the Apollo astronauts launch to the moon or planning every last detail on a trip to Europe, she kept her ship tight and her family loved.

Her incredibly curious mind led her many parts of the world for her second act. She was notorious for spending her free time, post travel, writing deeply vibrant travel journals that would transport its readers to the most interesting parts of the world. In a matter of sentences, we will still enjoy sitting with her in a small café sipping wine in Portofino or putzing down the cobblestones of Germany. Her incredibly descriptive attention detail was known in all things, most specifically in her ability to translate culture and learn about the differences in others that make us whole.

To have known her is to know, “this too shall pass,” and she would encourage you to hop on a plane to conquer your bucket list, fears, or learn about the cultures most different from your own.

A celebration of life service will be held June 19, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, Florida, at 1 p.m., with a light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arlene’s name are welcome at Trinity Lutheran Church (1379 South McCall, Port Charlotte, Florida, 33981) or Tidewell Hospice (1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, Florida, 33952).

Arlene was the Executive Assistant/Secretary of the Quality Department at Seaquist/Aptar when I worked there. She was as much the heart and soul of the group as anyone, and constantly looked out for all of us. Her organizational skills were the best, and we always told her she should write a book about those skills. More than that, everyone talked to her about personal, professional and social issues, and she always had sound advice. It was truly a joy to have worked with, but more importantly known, Arlene and her family. She was family to us at Seaquist, and we kindly referred to her as "Mom". She was an angel on earth, and now has the special place in heaven looking over all of us again. Rest in peace, Arlene. God be with you.

I first met Arlene when my own Mom passed - she stepped in, took me under her wings and filled a void. We soon became fast friends and it was such a delight and will always cherish the many emails and cards that always arrived right on time. We talked about yellow flowers and gardening and the wonderful cruises and places she and Jim visited. You are missed and grateful for our time together. Love to Jim, Kim and Allison during this time of transition. Love - Tsitsi

Arlene Wiley was my friend, travel mentor and (like many of Kim's friends) second mother. Arlene was a travel guru, my resource n pre-Google times. Always willing to share her experience and even do research for me. She found the car service I hired in southern France for a special birthday trip! I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland with Arlene, Jim (aka the Mayor), and Kim. We had a wonderful time exploring the coast, staying in B&Bs from the book Arlene had, eating in pubs, and enjoying our evening wine. I also had an email pen pal relationship with her. Nothing made my day like seeing an email from Arlene. Arlene, thank you for being so loving and caring. I will miss you. Rest in peace dear friend.
    Love,
    Trish
