Obituary

Arthur “Art” E. Holt, 83, of Ocala, FL, passed away September 13, 2018. Art was born March 17, 1935, to Arthur and Mary Holt, in Seattle, WA. After graduation from the University of Washington, he served in the United States Navy for six years, and during that time he was commissioned as a lieutenant and was a photo journalist with the Pentagon. Upon leaving the Navy, Art worked in Seattle as a photographer and in advertising.
Then, he got the call to ministry, attended Unity School of Christianity in Lee’s Summit, MO, and was ordained as a Unity minister. He was then accepted as an associate minister at the Unity of Naples Church in Naples, FL, and became a senior minister until he retired and moved to Ocala.
Art lived his life with joy, peace and love. He was a writer and produced the bi-monthly Upward Bound Journal. Art was known for all of his creativity. He was an avid photographer in retirement, loved to golf with friends as well as being a Jack-Of-All-Trades in the home.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dottie Holt. He is also survived by two sons in Seattle, David (Ann) and Douglas (Cathy), and four grandchildren. In addition, he has two stepsons, Brad (Rhonda) and Greg, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Art was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was treasured and will be greatly missed.

Rev. Art Holt was the first person I met when I came to Unity of Naples in January of 2000. I will always remember his warm smile and friendly greeting. I have always appreciated his wisdom and his writing, he was truly an inspired minister and teacher.

I have known Art for over ten years now from the Oak Run photography club. We have done quite a number of field trips together. What breaks my heart is that he was on his way to my 80th birthday party.he will be missed by all of us from the Photography Club.

This is difficult to write. I knew Art for several years, having met him in the Oak Run Photo Club and maintaining the friendship after the Photo Club ceased to exist. I loved to go on photo shoots with him, to read his Upward Bound Journal, to hear him talk about his Navy career or his love for the San Juan Islands. I really would have enjoyed visiting that area with him.

In a small way, I share the families loss. I will greatly miss him.
