Obituary

Audrey Iris Pekor (Scharf), age 86, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Winter Park,
Florida.

She is survived by her daughters, Sarafaith Pekor (Daniel Saraceni), of Altamonte Springs, FL and Carrie Pekor Jasper of Newtonville, Massachusetts; her sister, Cynthia Scharf Slapion of New Jersey; her grandchildren Zoe Jasper of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Blair Jasper of Newtonville, Massachusetts.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lillian and Isidore Scharf of Delray Beach, Florida, her brother-in-law Paul Scharf Slapion of Englewood, New Jersey, and her former husband Allan Pekor of Miami, Florida.

Audrey was born on July 18, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York to parents “Manny” and Lillian Scharf (Zweifler). She graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn, New York with the Class of
1956. In 1966 She and her young family moved to New Jersey, where she helped to found a modern Reform Jewish synagogue Temple Shaari Emeth.

After living in Puerto Rico for several years, she relocated to Florida in 1979. In 1998 she received her Yoga Instructor Certification from the Ananda School of Yoga & Mediation, Ananda Village, CA and began her career as an independent yoga Instructor. She continued to teach for the next 17 years, and her passion for yoga continued for the rest of her life.

Audrey loved being a grandparent, and attending many of her grandchildren’s activities in Massachusetts. She loved the ocean and enjoyed many summers on the island of Martha’s Vineyard with family and friends. She kept magnificent gardens at her home in Vineyard Haven.
In 2012 she moved to Winter Park, Florida, and became an active member of the Mayflower independent living community, where she enjoyed socializing, serving on various committees, volunteering in the library, and singing in the choir.

Audrey was a talented singer, an avid reader, loved cooking, flowers, world travel, and following current events. She was loved deeply, and will be remembered as a bright, generous, independent, and beautiful spirit.

In her honor a memorial fund has been established to expand the Memory Care Garden at The Mayflower in Winter Park. The garden will be enhanced to provide even more opportunities for relaxation, peaceful reflection and therapeutic activities for memory care residents and their families.
