Ava was a native of Virginia, and moved from Michigan to New Smyrna Beach in 1991. She was a proud retired nurse who was administrator of nursing homes in three states for 15 years, having inherited special interest in senior citizens from her family aunts. She worked for the Joint Commission, was State Health Advocate for AARP, and was instrumental in acquiring the Brannon Senior Center for New Smyrna Beach.
She is survived by 4 children of Donald Kearney of Midland, Michigan: Kenneth in Michigan, Steve in Colorado, Linda in Ohio, and Donna in California. The family is blessed with eleven wonderful grandchildren: Angela, Kendra, Wendy, Alexandra, Deardra, Mark, Megan, Tony, Lisa, Andrea, and Regina. Her two sisters are deceased.
She was devoted to the Coronado Community Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the class of Ross Cummings.
Ava loved New Smyrna Beach, especially the beach and the bridge groups of the Brannon Senior Center. She felt it important that Seniors remain active and independent, and the city has a responsibility to provide services to help them retain that quality of life.
Services are pending.
