Obituary
Barbara Ann Proctor, 85, a proud resident of The Village of Hillsboro, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at UF Health Center in Leesburg, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Jamaica Queens, New York, on August 27, 1939, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late William and Helen Ferguson. Growing up as the only girl among three brothers—Billy, Dennis, and Jimmy—she embraced her tom-boy spirit and became an exceptional basketball player, learning from her brothers.
Barbara attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School, followed by Jamaica High School. At the age of sixteen, she began her journey in the workforce at Cushman’s Bakery.
Barbara’s love story began with Robert Narracci at the Rollerdrome skating arena, leading to their marriage on October 20, 1957. Together, they raised six children: Linda, Donna, Karen, Barbara, Cosmo, and Helene. She adored her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Mom exemplified love, resilience, and hard work. She was not only a dedicated homemaker but also a savvy businesswoman who excelled in real estate, demonstrating her remarkable ability to balance family life with professional success. Barbara’s pioneering spirit shone brightly as she became the first woman salesperson at Len Brown’s Car Dealership in Herkimer, New York. She consistently demonstrated outstanding sales performance, earning monthly recognition for her achievements and setting a high standard among her male colleagues.
She also owned and operated successful restaurants, including Big Jim’s Sub Shop, Beef n Burger, and the Herkimer Country Golf Club Restaurant.
In 1993, Barbara embarked on a new journey to Florida, where she met Kenneth Proctor. They united in marriage on August 26, 1998, and together, they turned dreams into reality by owning and operating a Thoroughbred horse farm in Ocala, Florida, fulfilling her lifelong passion for horses.
In her later years, she found joy and comfort in her home in Hillsboro, Florida, where she was an active and beloved member of the community.
The passing of our mother is a significant loss for all of us. She has left behind numerous cherished memories, and her impact will be felt for years to come. Her legacy will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Mass will be held in her honor on November 22nd at 10:00 at St. Vincent De Paul. Following the service she will be laid to rest at Bushnell Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a gathering at the Rohan Recreation Center at 4:15.
