Barbara Joyce Potter, 77, of New Smyrna Beach died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2011 with her family by her side. Barbara was born December 11, 1934 in Bucksport, ME. She grew up in Bucksport where she graduated from Bucksport High School. Armed with a "Free Spirit" and sense of adventure Barbara set out to experience the world. Ever present on her journey was her love of music, cooking, and poetry. All that knew her will fondly remember her humming a familiar song while working in the kitchen or sitting around the piano playing a beautiful song from years past. Barbara faithfully balanced her sense of adventure with her commitment to family and friends. Barbara will be remembered as a beautiful wife, loving mother, and trusted friend. She married Alvin K. Potter on April 19, 1979 and after fulfilling her dream to travel the world they moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1987. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Lynn Schmidt and grandson, Jason. She is survived by her loving husband, Alvin; sons, John McGee and Rick Schmidt; daughter, Melanie McAdams; step-daughter, Barbara Czekalski; three grandchildren, and sisters, Helen Johnson and Gloria Harriman. Private services will be held at a later date.
