Obituary

Barbara Jean Kalil, age 79, passed away August 1, 2020. She was born November 1, 1940 in Akron Ohio to Sam and Beatrice Kalil.  She attended “Our Lady of the Elms,” an all-girls, faith-based school in Akron, Ohio.  She danced, sang, and played piano as young girl into her teens.

Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and “cat mom”. She cherished her cat, Bella and loved to collect cat figurines and ornaments. Her favorite dish she cooked is Stuffed Green Peppers. Barbara enjoyed watching cooking, travelling and old western films on TV. Barbara’s strength and resilience shone brightly as she was a beacon of comfort and encouragement for her family and friends. Barbara always said, “Do what makes you Happy”. Barbara’s kindness, sense of humor, and feistiness was truly a model of how to live a joyful life.

Barbara is survived by her children, Patricia, Michael, Richard Smith and Katheen Sullivan;  grandchildren, Samantha, Zak, Ryan and Troy Smith, Nicole Slavin, James, Jason, and Jennifer Noesner;  great-grandchildren, Karsyn, Quora, Clark, Ashlynn, and Seth;  son-in-law, Jonathan Brewer; and grandson-in-law, Bill Slavin.

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you”

  • Isaiah 66:13

This is the perfect image of maternal love. The comfort found in a mother’s love will last an eternity.

    Hi Mom,

It's almost two years without your presence. Sam and I miss you terribly. None of my siblings are part of our lives which is exactly what we discussed. You said "I dont know what the problem is with them." well I dont either. I tend to your memorial and think of you daily. It's tough. You and me were the closest - I have learned so much I wish you would have told me going through your documents. I hear you saying save for retirement, say no and do your own thing. You gave up so much to take care of others thinking it was best. Mother the ultimate teacher and protector - you knew I would have flipped if I found out what I have now. I'm angry by how you were treated. I love you and know you are with me. Patti

    Dear Mom,
You will be greatly missed! You were there for me when I had no one else turn too, for that I'm forever grateful. We shared a special relationship together that only a first son and Mother can experience together. Over the past 5-6 years we've been lunch buddies, our way of making time for each other. Sharing meals together with great conversation and laughs, special times and memories that will remain with me forever. May you rest in peace.

    Love ,
    Richard

    Dear Mom,
May you RIP and be with god. My memories of you are when you were younger with your beautiful dark/ brown hair and your love of driving. I can hear your voice and all the advise you have given me thru the years. I am thankful for our long conservation on this past Mother's Day.
    Love,
    Kathi

    Dearest Mom,

I love you so much. You have my heart and I have yours. I am so blessed that you were my Mom. Your love for me and my daughter Sam truly is an inspiration. There was always laughter and love. The memories of our crazy adventures and deep conversations will live with me forever. You were taken too soon from us and we will always keep your legacy alive. I would like share with others how we would say, "hey girl" and giggle. You have earned your wings - please sail home to be with your Dad.

    Your loving daughter,
    Patti
