Obituary
Barbara L. (Cressman) Marks, 92, of Ormond Beach died January 27, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born June 16, 1932, in Boyertown, Berks County, Pennsylvania, elder daughter of Clarence K. and Gwendolyn (Godshalk) Cressman. She was predeceased by brothers Frank and Richard and sister Margaret Goldstein. She graduated from Boyertown High School in 1950. Following high school Mrs. Marks attended West Chester State Teacher’s College graduating with her teaching degree in 1953.
Barbara and Harold E. (Hal) Marks were married on June 6, 1953, and moved to Daytona Beach in 1955. Barbara was predeceased by her husband in 2022, having been married for 69 years, and is survived by her 5 children, Randolph Alan, Sandra Lynn Peerless (Christopher), Carol Sue Culkin (Gerald), Gary David (Darryl-Anne), Lee Ann Carroll (Jeffrey Lee), 7 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Mrs. Marks taught physical education at Mainland Junior High School from 1962 to 1967, and at Holly Hill Junior High School from 1969 to 1986, when she retired from teaching. She made many cherished and lasting friendships at both schools.
Following her retirement, Hal and Barbara enjoyed a very active life and made many trips overseas, including two years in Curacao, many trips to Germany, Switzerland and Austria, as well as trips to Scotland, Ireland, England, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Peru, China, Turkey, Egypt and the Holy Land. They also travelled frequently to visit their children and grandchildren throughout the country in California, Ohio, Texas and South Carolina, taking a very active interest in the school and sports activities of their grandchildren. Barbara maintained throughout her life a very active lifestyle including working out daily at Planet Fitness and playing golf, during which she made many treasured friends. She also loved the beach and had a passion for crossword puzzles and word games. After her husband’s death, she continued to travel and visited Italy with her children in 2023 to see the many places and sites she had dreamed about visiting.
Mrs. Marks and her husband became members of Trinity Lutheran Church in 1955 and remained as active members until their deaths. Their children were baptized and confirmed at the Church. Trinity Lutheran Church became a very important focus of her energies and love during her entire life. Mrs. Marks took a very active role at the Church, including teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and singing in the choir. She made many lasting friendships at the Church that she cherished her entire life.
Her children remember with eternal love and gratitude her unselfish and unconditional love and devotion to each of them and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will also remember forever her very strong and unceasing love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and complete devotion to His memory and example.
Services for Mrs. Marks will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1205 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill, FL on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception at the Church Fellowship Hall after the services until 1:00 p.m.. There will be a graveside service and interment at Wyomissing United Church of Christ, Wyomissing Cemetery, 1700 Old Lancaster Pike, Gouglersville, PA 19608. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Barbara Marks’s name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Holly Hill, Florida.
