Barbara White Herbert, a resident of Edgewater for the past 39 years, died peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the age of 93 after a short illness. She was born in the Danville, Virginia area in 1921 and moved to the Washington, DC area where she met and married her late husband, Charlie, in 1943 while he was serving in the Navy during WWII. They were married for 50 years. She is survived by her three children: Mickey Herbert and his wife, Jackie, of Fairfield, Connecticut; Jack Herbert and his wife, Joan, of Annapolis, Maryland; and Judy Laub and her husband, Roger, of Edgewater. There is no way to express the family’s gratitude to Roger for all the love and care he provided throughout the years.
She also is survived by 9 grandchildren. They are Eleni Wojcikowski (David), Christopher Herbert (Greta), Stephanie Herbert, Mickey Herbert, Charlie Herbert, Jonny Herbert (Erica), Jeffrey Herbert (Meredith), Michael Laub and J.R. Laub. Her Great Grandchildren are Sailor and Alison Laub, Jack, Charlie and Sam Herbert and Zachary Wojcikowski. She loved all of them dearly. Barbara was active in her church. She loved bowling, playing cards and puzzles, and played tennis well into her 80’s. Her family also would like to thank Lina Genge and Carla Sgroi for all they did for Barbara over the past several weeks. Visitation will be at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach at 11:00AM on Friday, July 25, followed by a celebration of her life service at noon. Interment to follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery.
