Obituary
Benjamin Richard (“Dick”) McLaughlin, of Kissimmee, FL., formerly of Wilmington and Clarksville DE, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 20, 2021. He was 93 years old.
Born in Clarksville, DE, Richard was the son of Benjamin and Edna Evans McLaughlin. He attended and graduated from The Pennington Preparatory School in NJ. Richard was predeceased by his parents and two older brothers Harrison and Samuel. In 1949, Richard married Eleanor Anderson of Aldan, PA and they remained married for 67 years until Eleanor’s passing in 2017.
Richard is survived by four sons Steven McLaughlin (Betsy) of Lakeland, Florida, Kenneth McLaughlin of New Castle, Delaware, Dale McLaughlin of Ocean View, Hawaii, and Richard McLaughlin (Susan) of Orlando, Florida. He leaves behind seven Grandchildren (Scott, Erik, Brad, Kyle, Casey, Ryan, and Abigail) in addition to eleven Great Grandchildren.
Richard worked as general manager for Wilmington Florist Exchange in Delaware for over thirty years. He then pioneered the opening and managed the daily operations of National Decorative Distributors in Newark, Delaware for ten years until his retirement. Richard enjoyed basketball and baseball, loved the music of Frank Sinatra, and was a dedicated husband, father and beloved family member and friend to many.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his memory to the Good Samaritan Community Church, 1441 Hoeger Circle, Kissimmee, FL 34746.
