Obituary
Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Singletary, Jr. passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, where we are sure he was greeted with “Well done, my good and faithful servant”. Frank was born April 28, 1931 to Benjamin and Eddie (Griffin) Singletary in Valdosta, Georgia. After the death of his mother when he was three months old, he was raised by his Uncle Kinsey and Aunt Doris Griffin.
Frank deeply loved, enjoyed, and was proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his daughters Karen (Bob) Cheney, Niki (Mark) Wayson, and Angela (Bill) Weatherford, along with seven Grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren, and two more Great Grandchildren on the way: Garrett (Christine) Cheney and their children Chloe, Harper, and Jackson; Paige (Neil) Clement and their child Valerie; Michael (Leslie) Wayson and their children Meredith, Amelia, Charlotte; Brant (Liesa) Wayson and their child Luna; Zachary Wayson; Parks (Kinsey) Weatherford; Frank Weatherford and a loving extended family of relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his son, Curt Franklin, and his brothers, Ellis (Christine) and Edgar (Lois) Singletary.
Frank grew up in a home filled with an abundance of love and laughter. He learned the values of honesty, humbleness, and hard work. He recognized the importance of following the Lord and sought God’s guidance throughout his life. His legacy of faithfulness to the Lord has been passed down through the generations. Frank was a talented athlete who earned a football scholarship to Stetson University, where he was elected to the Stetson Sports Hall of Fame. At Stetson he met his “beautiful bride” as he would always say. They were married for over 67 years and raised three daughters, of whom he was very proud.
After Stetson, Frank went on to teach and coach for a time and then went into sales for the rest of his career. He was very involved in family life, in his community, and in his church. He encouraged and supported his daughters in their interests and dreams throughout their life. He was known as a man of the highest integrity, wisdom, and unshakeable faith. He was also known for his great sense of humor, quick wit and great story telling. He always saw the good in life and in people and was very aware of and thankful for his blessings. He was always willing to help parents, family, neighbors, and friends. Frank became a mentor to many in his lifetime. He served on church committees, was the President of the PTA for a number of years, helped found the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Orange County, and taught Adult Sunday School for many years. He was a very patient man and an anchor of steady faith and calmness for everyone around him.
Frank will be forever loved and greatly missed by all whose lives and hearts he touched.
A Celebration of Frank’s life will be held on October 28 at 2:30PM at Church on the Drive located at 1914 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, Florida.
In honor of Frank’s military service in the U.S. Army, he will be buried at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date.
