Obituary

Bernard (Ben) Guida of Winter Park, FL passed peacefully surrounded by his siblings, friend and caregiver, Stevan Rojas, at his home on January 13, 2021.

Ben was born in Detroit, MI in 1957 to Ermelinda and the late Elvio Guida. He graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor degree in Public Administration. During his career he was city manager in several municipalities in Michigan and procurement director for transport sectors in FL and GA.

Ben is survived by his mother, Ermelinda Guida, sister, Philomena (Paul) Woods, brother, Joe (Sue) Guida, sister, Diana Guida (Duane Nimtz). He was cherished by all his nephews and nieces and they sought his council on many life issues. He also leaves behind great nephews and nieces as well as cousins, aunts, and uncles both in the U.S. and Italy. His beloved dog Juanito will certainly miss him too.

Ben was a very loving, caring man who loved to travel and made friends easily. He will be greatly missed by so many.

A celebration of Ben’s life will be held at a later date when we can all gather safely together.

He will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, MI.

Offerings of sympathy can be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation at https://allbloodcancers.org/donate, or a charity of your choosing.

My condolences to Ermalinda and the Guida family. I am so sad for your loss. I hadn’t seen Ben in many years, but I certainly remember a trip to Italy when we were young and always seeing Ben smiling or laughing. I also remember a road trip with Ben when he drove me back to Ferris is his very nice VW Beetle. Sending love and prayers to your family during this difficult time.

I thank God for the day that He nudged me over one seat as I tried to sit two seats away from that stranger in the airport. Never strangers since, but fellow citizens, and brothers. Your kindness left an indellible mark on my family's hearts. "Give my best to April and the kids" you'd say, and on that you certainly delivered. "Hugs all around," and I so look forward to yet another one. Until that Great Day, we love you Uncle Ben!

As president of Bloomfield Concord Condominium Association, I knew Ben is a kind, warm, outgoing and always friendly person. He never thought it was too difficult to stop his car and chat whenever he saw me, and we had some really great chats. I am so sorry he's gone. He will be missed.

You will be truly missed. He loved everyone around him, always had a kind word, and gave encouraging words. I will remember our conversation last week reminiscing our childhood years together. Our hearts are broken and we know he's in a better place watching over us all. Love you Ben! Like you told me.."Our paths will cross again someday". Till then, I hold you dearly in my heart.
