Obituary

Funeral Mass for Bernard Louis Sechen, New Smyrna Beach who died Sunday, August 26, 2012 will be 10:00AM Friday, August 31 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with The Reverend John Murray celebrating. Bernie was born in South Range on the Upper Peninsula in Michigan. He served our nation in the US Navy during WW II and Korea. He retired as Deputy Commanding Officer in the US Army Training Devices Agency. Since moving to New Smyrna Beach from Winter Park in 1978 he and his late wife Sandra were very active in community life. Bernie served as Past Commodore of Smyrna Yacht Club and the Blue Gavel Association, Southeast Volusia Democratic Club, Past President of Association of Condominiums of New Smyrna Beach, Past Administrative Officer of the Ponce Inlet Power Squadron, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Slovenian American Retired Club and American Legion Post 17 New Smyrna Beach. He leaves to cherish his memory children Bernadine Platen of Germany, Robert Sechen, Esq of Tallahassee, grandchildren Major David Hanson currently serving in Afghanistan, Brenna Hanson Murray, Christian Vogel, Chase Elizabeth Sechen, Georgia Sechen, Kelsey Sechen, Alexander Sechen, Andrew Sechen, brother Edward and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Alexsandra, three children Elizabeth, Peter and Kenneth and his second wife Joanne Sechen. Memorial donations are requested in the memory of his three children who predeceased him with cancer, Peter, Kenneth and Elizabeth to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
