Obituary
On April 27, 2017, God sent for an Angel and she accepted. The Angel we are so blessed to have as our own guardian is Bertha Barbara DeBlois. She was born on March 3, 1928 in Haverhill, MA. I can’t imagine during her childhood that she could ever know the outstanding influence she would have on so many people. When Bertha was 19, she married Ed DeBlois, her soul mate, her one and only love, her true heart. Bertha was the first woman to give birth to their first child, Colleen, at West Point while Ed was active duty. After years of service in the US Air Force and US Navy, they moved from up north to sunny Florida, had three more children, Carol, Jeanne, and Eddie Jr., and made Flagler State Park their home, as Ed was a resident park ranger. Bertha’s life would change with the sudden death of her beloved, Ed in 1980. Bertha leaned on her family and continued to inspire and encourage through her own strength. She served with Girl Scouts, and was awarded her 25-year service medal, to which she was so proud. In 2009, Bertha would again face tragedy with the death of her oldest daughter, Colleen. She made her home with her middle daughter and son-in-law, where she lived until God sent for her. She loved her family with all of her heart and you knew it when she’d say, “I love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.” Bertha loved starting the day early and you knew it by her telling you, sometimes with her cow bell, “Sun’s up, it’s time to get up!” She was a very petite, amazing lady who gave you everything and asked for nothing in return. Bertha is survived by her three children, Eddie, Carol, Jeanne and son-in-law Bobby. She also leaves 1 sister Patricia Garland, 11 grand children, 24 great grand children, and 11 great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and many loved ones. Bertha was affected by diabetes and dementia.
