Obituary

Bertha James Barton 95 of Orlando went to be with the Lord May 21, 2018. Bertha was born October 19, 1922 to Joseph Levi James and Elizabeth “Bessie” Murray James in Athens Ga.

Nana will be remembered for her independence and longevity at work, serving Florida Hospital South for 40 years until she was 94. She loved to crochet and made sure the maternity ward was always stocked with baby caps. Her love for family showed on the many Friday night homemade scratch suppers she prepared.

She is survived by 2 sons, James (Joedith) of Daytona, and Steven (Lori) of Orlando. 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Courtney, Heather, Jill, and Michael, along with 6 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Pine Castle Baptist Church, June 2, visitation at 10:00 am, and the service at 11:00.

In lieu of flowers the family request a donation be made to Halifax Hospice Port Orange.

Instead of flowers, the family would prefer if you would make a donation to
Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129

Bertha was one of the most positive people you will ever meet. She relished each encounter with her friends and coworkers. She was also a kind soul who knitted a baby blanket for our daughter who is now 25 years old. Bertha always made me smile and taught me not to take things too seriously. She was a tireless worker at Florida Hospital who could solve the most complicated accounting problem. Bertha truly exemplified the mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ. I draw comfort knowing her spirit is with our loving Savior.

Miss Bertha was an extraordinary person who loved to teach and crochet her way to your heart. She was funny, upbeat and never complained about any illnesses. She was a role model to many, but to me she was one of a kind. We will miss you, Bertha!

Bertha was a valued colleague of mine at Florida Hospital. I appreciated the opportunity to witness her dedication to accounts payable, her dedication to her work family, and her dedication to selfless service. She was a great role model for me.

Bertha was an Amazing Lady that has touched so many lives in her time here on earth. She never let anything slow her down or stop her from doing whatever she set her mind out to do. She loved giving to others especially hand made crochet items such as the Baby Caps that she made and donated to FH Orlando, baby blankets that she made for coworkers that were having babies or grandbabies and not to mention slippers that I am sure so many still have. She had a Friendly spirit about her and loved sharing stories and talking to people. She is an inspiration and will be fondly remembered in the hearts and minds of many.

She has always been there my entire life. It’s hard to imagine a world without her. She wasn’t blood related to me, but she’s always been my grandma and she’s always been one of the most caring and loving people I’ve ever met. I will miss her smile, her laugh, and her love.
