Obituary
Bertha Turner, 89, a resident of Fort Myers, FL for most of her life passed away on July 10, 2020. Bertha Albertine Register, a true native of Florida, was born in Tarpon Springs on June 28, 1931 to John Lake and Clara Ann Register.
Bertha moved to Fort Myers in 1944, and shortly after began attending Fort Myers High School and was a member of the chorus. She was a devoted wife to Gilbert Newton Turner Jr (deceased) and mother to eight children who she dearly loved. Known for her cooking, she was most happy with a full house full of her children, grandkids and many family friends every weekend. Her door was always open to anyone who would come and visit. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, solitaire and lots of word search puzzles. She never met a student she didn’t treat as her own family while she worked later in life at both J. Colin English and Cypress Lake High School. Everyone was “Honey.”
She was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert Newton Turner and her son Richard Grant Turner. She is survived by her seven children, Cathy (Jeff) Rowland, Betty (Robert) Stephens, Barbara (Danny) Ballantine, Roy (Tammy) Turner, Ray (Terri) Turner, Lyn Turner and Ronald Turner; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, Joseph, Benjamin, Andrea, Jason, Melissa Ann, Jennifer Marie, Brittany, Melissa Sue, Lauren and Zachary; and many great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bertha Turner’s memory be directed to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 at https://donate.hopehcs.org.
